All camps share a common purpose: creating an environment where Young Life staff bring Christ to life by creatively presenting the complete gospel of Jesus Christ. Speaking clearly from the Scriptures, camp speakers introduce kids to the person of Christ, the nature of humanity, the work of Christ on the cross, the hope of the resurrection and the opportunity for reconciliation with God.

Camping Commitment Statement
As a follower of Jesus Christ and a minister of His Gospel, demonstrate a basic understanding of Young Life's ministry strategy and participate in providing excellent camping experiences for individuals to encounter Jesus Christ and know the truth of God's love for them.


Mission & Authority
Through both continued training and direct experience, lead staff and prepare an environment where guests, staff, and volunteers are well cared for by preparing a distraction free environment for kids to encounter Jesus Christ. This is a support role that works alongside the Sites and Facilities Superintendent to learn and help lead all aspects of the Sites and Facilities Department.

ESSENTIAL PREREQUISITES FOR ALL STAFF MEMBERS (FROM YOUNG LIFE'S BYLAWS - ARTICLE VII):

With direction from supervisor, develop an annual personal spiritual growth plan.
Participate in a culture where the spiritual formation of volunteers is both a priority and responsibility.

Attentive Hospitality: Equip servant leaders who anticipate and respond to the needs of our guests, staff and vendors, through Christ-like service.

Demonstrate a posture of service that anticipates guest needs and responds with professionalism through intentional decisions and systems.
Develop a recognition and action plan for guest needs/requests in order to partner with our guests; meeting their needs and supporting an environment where guests are heard.

Interpersonal Relationships: Help build relationships that reflect the character of God with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors to foster healthy community.

Participate in interdepartmental staff relationship by engaging in partnerships throughout the property.
Offer leadership and direction to those workers assigned to you.
Supervise staff whom the site and facilities superintendent may assign to you, both summer and winter.
o This includes full and part-time camping staff, in addition to maintenance summer staff, work crew, volunteers and other people who may be assisting with a maintenance or project function on the property.
At all times, maintain a pleasant, positive attitude toward staff and others involved in the program, conveying the idea of maximum service consistent with the capabilities of the property and equipment.
Work closely with the site and facilities superintendent, guest services coordinator and assigned staff on all matters involving use of the property for the program.
Cooperate with all other departments on the property to operate as a team and produce a well-functioning body.
Relate to the local community in a manner best suited to carry out the public relations policy of Young Life as presented by the camping manager.

Comprehensive Stewardship: Manage with integrity the finances, people, buildings and equipment that have been entrusted to our ministry.

Develop and equip interns and volunteers to participate in comprehensive stewardship of Sites and Facilities department.
Support an environment where volunteers feel valued both as contributors and as people.
Supervise staff whom the site and facilities superintendent may assign to you, both summer and winter. This includes full and part-time camping staff, in addition to maintenance summer staff, work crew, volunteers and other people who may be assisting with a maintenance or project function on the property.
Work closely with the work crew and summer staff bosses in making the work experience a positive time of personal growth for the individuals that have volunteered their time at the property.
Maintain operating records as required by the site and facilities superintendent.

Certification(s) in electrical, plumbing, framing, waste water or HVAC desired

Camp or Job Specific Working Conditions:


Must be capable of spending most of the workday standing or walking.
Must be adaptable to all work environments, inside and out.
Must be capable of working on projects over/above head, as well as bending, kneeling, crawling in/around attics, crawl spaces, etc.
Capable of digging, shoveling and raking various compounds.

Education:


High school diploma or GED

Experience Required For The Job:


Strong proficiency in 2-3 trades, ability to teach/lead other staff in those trades
Ability to organize and supervise people and tasks
General knowledge of multiple plant systems

Physically able to do the work

Notes:

Young Life is a relational ministry. Staff must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff. Responding to the unexpected needs of a guest in a prompt and professional manner is important. All staff members are expected to represent Young Life positively and professionally within the community and be able to work with and minister to the volunteer high school and college-age young people who attend our camp.

Job Specific Working Conditions:


Young Life's Washington Family Ranch is a large facility with a wide range of commercial and residential systems and equipment. The candidate filling this job would be part of a 14-person talented and dedicated Facilities Maintenance team providing services across the entire facility. Duties of this job could include, but are not limited to, preventative maintenance and one-time tasks/projects involving the following:

  • Hydronic boiler and chiller systems
  • Residential heat pump systems
  • Refrigeration systems
  • Commercial food service and ware-washing equipment
  • Commercial laundry equipment
  • Propane fired boilers, heaters, and appliances
  • Air handling equipment
  • Pumps
  • Various control-related devices including sensors, valves, dampers, etc.
  • Programmable controls and BMS (Building Management System)

Washington Family Ranch is a remote property (located one hour from the closest grocery store) with a large dedicated staff that results in approximately 120 people living year round at camp. This creates a unique and spiritually rewarding environment of Christianworkand fellowship. There are two camps located here: a high school focused camp (Canyon) and a middle school camp (Creekside). Affordable housing is available on property.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is outlined below. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the United States.

The anticipated hourly rate for this position can range from19.00 - 28.55depending on relevant education, experience, and location.
