Anesthesiologist Job Summary

Elkhart General Hospital, a 254‑staffed bed Level III Trauma Center in Elkhart, Indiana, is actively seeking full‑time Anesthesiologists to join our dynamic and collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Regional anesthesia supporting a robust orthopedic program
  • Neuroanesthesia and healthy pediatric ENT cases
  • Low to medium volume OB, Endoscopy, and Cath Lab procedures
  • A full spectrum of GYN and general surgery
  • New anesthesia equipment in the ORs

Physicians will enjoy the flexibility to sit their own cases while also running the board and managing department operations. This is an exceptional opportunity to practice in a supportive, high‑functioning environment that values clinical excellence and teamwork. New graduates will also benefit from mentorship.

Must Have Qualifications
  • Competent with PNBs and neuraxial anesthesia
  • Comfortable with neuroanesthesia
  • Willing to be involved with hospital committees to ensure an active and beneficial anesthesia presence resonates throughout the hospital
  • Dedicated to seeing things are done in the most appropriate and safest way with every patient interaction
  • Leadership mentality
  • Comfortable managing day‑to‑day anesthesia operations

Work Schedule
  • Four physician model allows for 3 weeks on/1 week off rotation (13 weeks off per year)
  • When working but not on‑call, the physician will run their own room administering anesthesia. This non‑call shift ends at 3:00 p.m., often earlier.
  • Ability to trade days/weeks off with partners
  • Annually, the call burden is split 4 ways with every post‑call day off and 1 weekend/month call
  • In‑house CRNAs allow for home call with a 30‑minute call‑in radius

  • Affiliation with Indiana University School of Medicine at Notre Dame and Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency allows for teaching of residents, medical students and supervision of post‑graduate trainees.

About the Practice

EGH Anesthesia is a dynamic, hospital‑based practice offering a unique blend of clinical autonomy and collaborative leadership. Our anesthesiologists rotate between sitting their own cases and serving as the board‑runner or float anesthesiologist, ensuring seamless perioperative care and operational efficiency.

Our team includes three dedicated anesthesiologists. When not sitting your own case, the float anesthesiologist plays a pivotal role in:

  • Overseeing patient flow from pre‑operative evaluation through PACU discharge
  • Addressing pre‑op and post‑op concerns promptly and effectively
  • Responding to operating room urgencies and emergencies
  • Coordinating daily room assignments and enforcing early‑out schedules
  • Collaborating with OR leadership to align resources and optimize daily operations
  • Performing nerve blocks and other similar responsibilities

We operate within a high‑functioning care team model, supported by skilled and independent CRNAs. With a supervision ratio of 1:7, our CRNAs are trusted partners in care delivery and maintain a collegial relationship with our physicians. An attending anesthesiologist is always present in‑house whenever anesthesia is being administered.

Obstetric anesthesia is fully managed by CRNAs, who provide 24/7 coverage for Labor & Delivery, allowing our anesthesiologists to focus exclusively on surgical cases.

On any given weekday, we support up to eight anesthetizing locations, offering a diverse and engaging clinical environment.
