Media Systems Engineer

Raleigh, NC • On-site, Remote

Job description

Media Systems Engineer

Location: Raleigh, NC (must reside in the Raleigh area)     Type: Full-Time     Travel: Frequent travel to Greenville, NC required

About the Role

MrBeast produces more content - and generates more footage - than almost any studio on the planet. Behind every video is a serious infrastructure operation: petabyte-scale storage, high-bandwidth editorial networks, deep archives, and a data center that never gets to take a day off.

We're looking for a Media Systems Engineer based in Raleigh, NC to work directly with our Systems Engineering lead and support the broader team. You'll remotely operate and maintain our data center, own storage and archival infrastructure end to end, and travel frequently to our Greenville, NC studio for hands-on work. This is a role for someone who has lived inside real media infrastructure - the kind found at studios and networks like DreamWorks, NBCUniversal, or Netflix - and knows what it takes to keep production moving when the stakes are high and the timelines are short.

What You'll Do

Storage & Archival

  • Operate and maintain multi-tier storage infrastructure (primary, nearline, and archive) for raw camera footage and finished assets
  • Manage LTO tape library operations end to end: archival writes, verification/checksums, restores, offsite rotation, and media lifecycle
  • Administer SAN/NAS and shared editorial storage platforms, including capacity planning, performance tuning, and monitoring
  • Support and improve backup and disaster recovery strategy across on-prem and cloud tiers

Data Center & Servers

  • Provide remote day-to-day operation and support of our data center: monitoring, alerting, incident response, and vendor coordination
  • Build and administer Linux and Windows servers, virtualization platforms, and core services (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP)
  • Perform hands-on data center work during Greenville visits: racking, cabling, hardware lifecycle, and facility upgrades

Networking

  • Support high-bandwidth editorial and production networks: VLANs, subnets, routing/switching, and firewall policies
  • Troubleshoot and optimize network performance for video editing, media transport, and file-acceleration workflows
  • Partner with the team on network design for new builds and studio expansion

Cloud & Workflow

  • Manage cloud storage integration and hybrid on-prem/cloud tiering (AWS or equivalent)
  • Support media workflows and asset movement between editorial, archive, and delivery systems
  • Script and automate repetitive infrastructure and media-movement tasks (Python, Bash, or PowerShell)
  • Write and maintain documentation, SOPs, and runbooks so knowledge never lives in just one head
What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of systems engineering / systems administration experience in media & entertainment - studio, network, broadcast, or post-production environments (e.g., DreamWorks, NBCUniversal, Netflix, or comparable)
  • Deep hands-on experience with archival workflows and LTO tape libraries (Quantum, Spectra Logic, or similar) and archive software (Archiware, SGL, or equivalent)
  • Strong storage chops: SAN/NAS administration at scale (Avid NEXIS, SNS EVO, PowerScale/Isilon, Qumulo, or similar)
  • Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, routing/switching, DNS/DHCP, firewalls, and high-throughput (10/25/100GbE) environments
  • Server administration across Linux and Windows, plus virtualization (VMware, Proxmox, or equivalent) and Active Directory
  • Working knowledge of cloud storage and compute (AWS, GCP, or Azure) in hybrid media environments
  • Ability to support a production data center remotely - strong monitoring, troubleshooting, and on-call discipline
  • Clear communicator who can support creative, non-technical teams under production pressure
  • Must live in (or relocate to) the Raleigh, NC area and be able to travel frequently to Greenville, NC
Nice to Have
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+/Storage+, AWS, or Avid ACSR, Netapp Ontap
  • Experience with MAM/DAM platforms (Iconik, CatDV, or similar) and file-acceleration tools (Signiant, Aspera)
  • Familiarity with editorial applications and codecs (Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer; UHD/HDR pipelines)
  • Live production or live-streaming infrastructure experience
  • Scripting beyond the basics - API integrations, Docker, infrastructure automation, Python, Bash etc.

You're not expected to have used every tool listed here - if you've run comparable systems at scale, we want to hear from you.

Details
  • Full-time position based in Raleigh, NC
  • Frequent travel to our Greenville, NC studio is required
  • Remote support of our data center, with periodic on-call responsibilities
