The Position:
Primarily responsibility for receiving and accessioning specimens, handling specimen documentation, and data entry of requisitions. They are also responsible for keeping the lab in a clean and orderly condition. Lead Specimen Processors are knowledgeable in sample integrity issues and are a resource to others in the lab. They maintain flexibility with work schedules including daily assignments, holiday schedules, and days of the week as determined by business need.
The person in this position must be able to coordinate the integral daily tasks which consists of making sure that Specimen Processor personnel are performing their duties, maintaining flexibility with regards to work schedule including section assignment, daily work shifts, and days of the week as determined by business need to meet the quality needed for excellent patient care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the same tasks as Senior SP in addition to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Proactively contributes to reaching team goals of cost-effective, high quality patient care services through leadership, technical expertise, and the appropriate utilization of resources.
  • Assists in the creation of, training, and implementation of departmental standard operation procedures.
  • Enhances existing procedures and services with quality that exceeds expectation.
  • Demonstrates the ability to take initiative, drive productivity, and build a collaborative environment.
  • Understands and performs laboratory activities to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Performs all duties according to guidelines outlined within the quality systems.
  • Participates in long term laboratory operations planning, including staffing, equipment, training schedules, and new assay implementation.
  • Demonstrates mastery in all related laboratory's established standard operating procedures and policies, involving specimen handling and processing, documentation/requisition, recording of processes in accordance with the Quality Assurance Program, and troubleshooting procedures for non-routine operations.

REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • 4-5 years of accessioning experience and/or in a lab setting
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to navigate efficiently through, or have familiarity with, various Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and have proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

For candidates based in our San Diego office, the hourly range is $29.00-$33.00.
The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience, skillset, geographic location, industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
