THE ROLE

The Catering / Special Events Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of catered events, banquets, and special functions by coordinating event logistics, supervising event staff, and ensuring exceptional service delivery. Working closely with Catering, Culinary, Stewarding, Facilities, and other operational departments, this position ensures events are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards while creating memorable guest experiences and maintaining the highest levels of hospitality and professionalism.

ESSENTIAL DUTES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the planning, coordination, setup, execution, and breakdown of catered events, banquets, receptions, and special functions.
  • Ensure event spaces are properly prepared and maintained in accordance with event specifications, service standards, and guest expectations.
  • Coordinate the movement, setup, and return of equipment, furniture, beverages, smallwares, and event supplies.
  • Serve as a primary operational contact during assigned events and respond promptly to guest, client, and event coordinator requests.
  • Monitor event operations to ensure service quality, cleanliness, organization, and adherence to established standards.
  • Partner with Catering, Culinary, Stewarding, Facilities, Security, and other departments to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Assist in resolving guest concerns, service challenges, and operational issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintain inventories of assigned equipment, supplies, beverages, and event-related materials.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and company policies and procedures.
  • Support departmental initiatives designed to improve service quality, operational efficiency, and guest satisfaction.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required meetings, trainings, and event briefings.
  • Report all workplace injuries, illnesses, unsafe conditions, and safety incidents in accordance with company policy, including same-day reporting through Origami Risk.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead pre-event roll calls and communicate event details, service expectations, staffing assignments, safety considerations, and operational updates.
  • Supervise banquet, catering, and special event staff during event setup, service, and breakdown activities.
  • Provide real-time coaching, and direction to team members to ensure successful event execution.
  • Monitor employee performance, professionalism, appearance, attendance, and adherence to company standards.
  • Coordinate work assignments and labor deployment to ensure efficient staffing and service delivery.
  • Supervise housepersons, stewarding personnel, and other support staff assigned to event operations.
  • Partner with department leadership to address performance, conduct, attendance, and operational concerns.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, safety, and guest service excellence.
  • Ensure all safety incidents are properly documented and reported in accordance with company policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some college coursework in hospitality, event management, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Active ServSafe Food Handler Certification required.
  • ServSafe Manager Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in banquet operations, catering, special events, or upscale food and beverage service.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a high-volume hospitality, attraction, hotel, convention center, stadium, arena, or special events environment preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of banquet operations, catering services, and hospitality service standards.
  • Exceptional guest service and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to effectively lead teams in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and resolve operational challenges with limited supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English required; bilingual or multilingual capabilities are a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to maintain accurate inventories and operational records.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Ability to enforce company policies, procedures, appearance standards, and service expectations.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional while working under pressure.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and event days.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, reach, and lift up to fifty (50) pounds on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • A commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and guest-focused work environment.

COMPENSATION

$25/hour + a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and 401(k) plan.
