Position Overview

The Spatial Designer Intern is in the creative services department. We are looking for someone who is currently enrolled or recently graduated from a design curriculum focused on architecture, theater or 3D design and who is passionate about space design, stage design, exhibit design, temporary installations and custom fabrications.

The Spatial Intern is a visualizer of the physical realm. From guest flows, space layouts, custom design elements, stage design and mobile experiences, the Spatial Intern focuses on bringing elements to life through floor plans and renderings. The Spatial Intern is expected to bring a strong level of creativity and strategy to the concept development phase of new and existing projects.

Responsibilities

  • Highly collaborative designer who will work closely with and under the guidance of Spatial Designers amp; Creative Directors
  • Supports designs for prospective client’s Request for Proposal responses and current client projects
  • Assists in the creation of spec and technical drawings as needed by fabrication vendors, AV vendors, etc.
  • Monitors and understands the latest design trends, as well as maintains high skill levels in relevant design softwares and platforms
  • All other duties as reasonably assigned to support project or department needs
  • Reports to Senior Spatial Designer

Qualifications

  • 0-1 years of experience
  • Pursuing BA or equivalent required in design-focused major (architecture, theater, industrial design, 3D)
  • Proficiency in:
    • Rhinoceros 3D
    • V-Ray or equivalent rendering software
    • AutoCAD
    • Twinmotion is a bonus
    • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • A portfolio of design samples that demonstrate applicable spec work
  • Strong conceptual abilities (developing ideas/concepts individually and as part of a team)
  • Quality rendering skills
  • Must be an effective project leader, a clear communicator and consensus builder, highly organized, very detail-oriented and able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in a demanding, fast-paced environment under tight deadlines

Additional Information

  • Candidates must be able to work from River North Chicago office at least 3 days a week.
    • This position will be local to the Chicago area within a hybrid model of working in-office on Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays and work from home on two days. Agency EA is located in the River North neighborhood of Chicago.
  • Compensation: This is a paid internship; $17/hour
  • Credits: This is eligible for college credit, depending on university requirements.
  • Duration: Spring - Summer Internship (start date flexible, schedule to be determined in consideration of any school requirements) - possibility of extension based on project needs.
