Job Description:

  • Schedule: Hybrid (Monday-Thursday onsite, Friday remote)
  • We are seeking an experienced GIS Technician to support the management, maintenance, and optimization of Geographic Information System (GIS) data for utility distribution networks.
  • This senior-level position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of spatial data while supporting engineering, operations, asset management, and outage management initiatives.
  • The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with utility GIS systems, advanced spatial analysis, and enterprise mapping solutions, along with the ability to mentor junior team members and collaborate across multiple business units.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, maintain, and optimize GIS databases supporting utility distribution systems.
  • Ensure GIS data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
  • Lead data collection efforts utilizing field surveys, GPS technology, and other spatial data sources.
  • Create, update, and maintain complex GIS maps, drawings, schematics, and distribution network records.
  • Perform advanced spatial analysis to support:
  • Distribution planning.
  • Asset management.
  • Outage management.
  • Operational decision-making.
  • Maintain GIS documentation, metadata, and change history.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of GIS data.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Asset Management, and other departments to integrate GIS data with enterprise systems.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior GIS technicians.

  • Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Geography, GIS, Geospatial Science, or a related field.
  • 10-15 years of GIS experience, preferably within the utility or energy industry.
  • Extensive experience managing enterprise GIS databases.
  • Strong knowledge of utility distribution systems and associated spatial data requirements.
  • Advanced analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
