Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Effective Date: 08/2023
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of the golf course grounds and open spaces. Works under the immediate supervision of the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and indirectly under the Golf Course Superintendent.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by the individual in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties as assigned.
  • Mows and maintains the golf course grounds and open spaces including all areas surrounding the golf course clubhouse and driving range.
  • Maintains sprinkler system and assists in the repair and maintenance of sprinkler lines and heads.
  • Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment.
  • Plants and maintains landscaping, including lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers.
  • Carries out the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and the pest and weed control of the golf course grounds and open spaces.
  • Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems.
  • Operates tractors, mowers, turf vehicles, and other listed equipment as needed.
  • Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and ground maintenance functions and the handling of maintenance equipment.
  • Collects and disposes of solid waste from the golf course; picks up litter from premises.
  • Opens and closes, locks, and unlocks facilities as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license.
  • Able to work weekdays and weekends.
  • Some knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in grounds maintenance; some knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs; some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the public.

  • Works with a positive attitude and has good customer service skills.

  • Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience needed to perform the work.

Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls.
  • Be able to work outdoors in a variety of different weather conditions.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
