What is a sow farm?

A sow farm is a specialized agricultural facility where female pigs, called sows, are bred, housed, and managed for the purpose of producing piglets. These farms focus on breeding, gestation, farrowing (birthing), and early care of piglets before they are moved to grow-finish operations. Sow farms play a critical role in the pork production industry by ensuring a consistent supply of healthy piglets. The management of a sow farm involves animal care, nutrition, health monitoring, and maintaining biosecurity to prevent disease outbreaks.
