About the Opportunity

A well-established general contractor focused on public infrastructure and transportation projects is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for their Southern California operations. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex, high-profile heavy civil projects alongside a respected and collaborative team.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, field coordination experience, and must bring prior experience with grade separation projects in Southern California. This requirement is essential due to the technical nature and stakeholder coordination involved in these types of builds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily coordination and communication with project team and field leadership

  • Track project schedule, cost, and progress, taking proactive measures to stay on track

  • Communicate regularly with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to maintain alignment

  • Monitor contract compliance, scope, and deliverables; ensure timely approvals for scope changes

  • Participate in project reviews and reporting for senior management

  • Mentor and support Project Engineers and other team members

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety policies, project procedures, and regulatory standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 7+ years of field experience in heavy civil construction

  • Previous grade separation project experience in Southern California is required
  • Experience managing or mentoring Project Engineers

  • Strong understanding of Caltrans and Union Pacific procedures and expectations

  • OSHA 30 (CAL/OSHA) required

  • Familiarity with grade separation projects in Southern California preferred

  • Excellent time management, communication, and team leadership skills

  • Ability to access all areas of an active job site in various conditions
