Job Purpose:
SMP's Employment Counsel serves as the senior legal authority on employment and labor matters across all jurisdictions in which Sony Music Publishing operates. This role provides strategic counsel to executive leadership, partners closely with People Experience leadership, and ensures a consistent, compliant, and values-aligned approach to workforce matters worldwide.
What You'll Do: (job responsibilities)
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the People Experience team on global employment law strategy and risk management.
  • Lead and oversee all employment-related legal matters across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Partner with People Experience, Compliance, Corporate Communications, and the Office of DEI on workforce strategy, policy development, crisis response, and change management.
  • Manage employment litigation, investigations, and disputes, including the oversight of outside counsel.
  • Design, implement, and maintain global employment policies that balance legal compliance with business and cultural priorities.
  • Advise employment agreements, executive compensation, equity plans, benefits, terminations, restructurings, and M&A-related employment matters.
  • Monitor and interpret global legislative and regulatory developments impacting the workforce.
  • Deliver training and education to leaders and employees to raise awareness, strengthen capability, and mitigate risk.

Who You Are: (skills and experience required)
  • Aligned with Sony Music Publishing's Global People Promise, Values, and Leadership Behaviors.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 10 years of employment law experience, including senior in-house and/or top-tier law firm experience.
  • Demonstrated experience advising executive-level stakeholders with sound judgment and commercial perspective.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. employment law with strong familiarity across international labor frameworks.
  • Proven ability to educate and train the workforce on complex legal topics.
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • 7.5-hour business workday but variations in work volume frequently require extended working hours for evening and late-night events

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is:
$146,600.00-$209,300.00
This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
