Family and Community Engagement Specialist (FACES) - Somali Speaking Position
Job Description: The FACES at Jefferson Elementary School serves as a vital liaison between students, families, and the school. This role operates in close collaboration with the Multilingual Program Coordinator and site administration to ensure seamless communication and support.
Qualifications: Bilingualism in English and Somali is required. Interpreter training and two years of postsecondary education is encouraged, but not required. Ability to work with a team, excellent communication skills, outstanding organizational abilities, and familiarity with and strong connections within the Faribault community are essential. All qualified candidates will be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with school administrative tasks that require interpretation: phone calls related to attendance, illness, positive behavior shout-outs and concerns, conference sign up and reminders, and other functions as needed.
  • Recruit and manage parent volunteers
  • Work with the EL Programming and general education staff
  • Conduct proactive and positive home visits
  • Develop and implement Parent Advisory Councils at the school
  • Help families find resources to meet their basic needs: housing, food, medical care, employment, legal needs, etc.
  • Assist with student needs during the school day as needed. This may include providing behavior support, providing newcomer support, assisting students having difficulty completing assignments, assisting with before school clubs, etc.
  • Assist with centralized registration: help families complete the online registration forms, ensure families are connected with community resources, inform families of the educational opportunities available
  • Assist families in navigating special education needs for their students.
  • Participate in FACES meetings and training
  • Attend and help with school events: parent/teacher conferences, special events, open house, etc.
