Job description

Solutions Architect I or II, Corporate Solutions

Hybridrole(3days/weekin office)atour Burlington, Renton, Spokane, Vancouver, Portland, Medford, Salt Lake City, Boise, Lewiston, or Fargooffices.

Build a career with purpose. Join our Cause to create a person-focused and economically sustainable health care system.

Who We Are Looking For:

Every day, Cambia's dedicated team of Solutions Architects are living our mission to make health care easier and lives better. As we position for significant growth and scale, our Corporate Solutions team is embarking on a high-visibility, high-impact modernization journey - and we're looking for a Solutions Architect who is energized by that challenge.

This isn't a greenfield role. It's a forensic one. You'll inherit a complex, highly customized legacy environment spanning Finance, Legal, Compliance, Imaging, Archiving, Middleware, and Integrations - and your job is to understand it deeply, untangle it thoughtfully, and help us build something scalable, modern, and ready for what comes next.

If you're the kind of architect who gets excited by unwinding complexity, who earns credibility by rolling up your sleeves alongside engineers, and who can walk out of a technical deep-dive and turn around and brief a business executive - this role was built for you.

Do you have a passion for solving hard problems and leaving things better than you found them? Then this role may be the perfect fit.

What You Bring to Cambia

Qualifications

The Solutions Architect Iwould have a Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, plus seven years of IT experience including a minimum of two years of technical leadership and architecture experience, and at least three years designing end-to-end solutions in complex environments. Strong understanding of enterprise application ecosystems and integration patterns is required. Experience in the health insurance industry and payer-oriented processes and systems is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Solutions Architect IIwould have a Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field - advanced degree preferred - plus seven years of IT experience including a minimum of two years of technical leadership and architecture experience, and at least five years designing enterprise-scale solutions in complex environments. Experience in the health insurance industry, payer-oriented processes, and health insurance technologies and regulations is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Attributes

Technical Depth

  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise application ecosystems, including ERP, EPM, and the custom and SaaS applications that surround them - with the ability to assess what belongs where and why

  • Strong command of integration architecture across file-based, API-driven, and streaming patterns, including REST and event-driven API design, managed file transfer, EDI/X12, and streaming integration using tools such as Kafka or equivalent

  • Experience designing and evaluating data pipeline and ETL architectures, including both on-premises and cloud-native tooling

  • Experience with on-premises and cloud-based application environments, with a clear trajectory toward cloud-native solutions

  • Hands-on experience with AWS and Azure services including compute, storage, serverless, and data pipeline tooling

  • Proficiency in modern development languages such as JavaScript/NodeJS, C#, or equivalent; comfortable writing and reviewing production-quality code to validate, prototype, or unblock complex technical problems

  • Experience with custom and proprietary application development, including the ability to read, evaluate, and make recommendations on complex legacy codebases

  • Experience assessing and refactoring highly customized legacy codebases, including identifying opportunities to replace proprietary solutions with configurable, maintainable alternatives

  • Familiarity with middleware and managed file transfer concepts and platforms

  • Comfortable writing SQL and performing data analysis to support architecture assessments and solution design

  • Experience evaluating and implementing AI solutions in an enterprise context, including familiarity with AI/ML platforms, large language model applications, and AI-enabled workflow automation; ability to assess third-party AI tools and partner effectively with internal AI teams to translate capability into practical solutions

Architecture and Modernization

  • Proven ability to assess legacy environments, identify technical debt, and develop pragmatic modernization roadmaps

  • Experience designing solutions that reduce complexity and enable scale - particularly in environments with significant customization and high integration density

  • Ability to evaluate third-party platforms and make well-reasoned build vs. buy recommendations

  • Experience with business process management (BPM) and business rules engines (BRE) as tools for replacing hard-coded logic with configurable, maintainable solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities where AI can reduce manual complexity, improve decision-making, or accelerate modernization - and to build the architectural foundation that makes those solutions possible

  • Familiarity with containers, serverless architectures, and SQL/NoSQL database design in cloud and hybrid environments

  • Experience with telemetry and observability tooling such as CloudWatch, NewRelic, or equivalent to support monitoring and performance benchmarking

  • Knowledge of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or Archimate, or equivalent

  • Experience documenting solutions in enterprise architecture modeling tools

Leadership and Communication

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a peer alongside engineering managers to set technical direction and influence delivery outcomes

  • Exceptional communication skills - equally fluent in technical conversations with engineers and strategic conversations with business executives and non-technical stakeholders

  • Strong mentoring instincts with a genuine interest in developing the technical capabilities of those around you

  • Ability to influence without direct authority across technical and business teams

  • Demonstrated interpersonal savvy - builds trust quickly, navigates complexity with diplomacy, and brings people along through change

  • Demonstrated excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to settle differences and align stakeholders with a minimum of friction and a maximum of diplomacy

  • Takes responsibility for continuously updating own skills and technical growth

What You Will Do at Cambia

  • Serve as the technical authority for Corporate Solutions architecture, spanning Finance, Legal, Compliance, Imaging, Archiving, Middleware, and Integration platforms

  • Diagnose and prioritize legacy complexity and technical debt, developing clear modernization roadmaps in partnership with engineering managers and business stakeholders

  • Design scalable, modern solutions that replace highly customized legacy implementations with architectures that are simpler, more maintainable, and built to grow

  • Lead evaluation of existing integrations - file-based, API-driven, and streaming - and define modern patterns to replace aging approaches

  • Design and evaluate data pipeline and ETL architectures, including both on-premises and cloud-native approaches, to support Finance, Compliance, and operational reporting needs

  • Evaluate AI solutions and third-party AI platforms for applicability across Corporate Solutions domains, including Finance, Legal, Compliance, and operational workflows

  • Partner with Cambia's enterprise AI team to define, design, and implement AI-enabled solutions that modernize and enhance Corporate Solutions capabilities

  • Guide build vs. buy decisions through rigorous platform and vendor evaluations

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to engineering teams, including proof-of-concept development, code review, and real-time problem solving on complex technical challenges

  • Assess and refactor highly customized legacy codebases, identifying opportunities to replace proprietary solutions with configurable, maintainable, and scalable alternatives

  • Partner with engineering managers to establish technical direction, standards, and expectations across Corporate Solutions delivery teams

  • Accurately estimate resources and time scales needed to implement projects or plan service implementations

  • Audit project status to ensure technical and process excellence

  • Mentor engineers and architects, actively contributing to the upskilling of a 30-40 person organization

  • Translate complex technical concepts for non-technical business stakeholders and executive audiences, and translate business strategy into actionable technical direction

  • Document all solutions clearly within the EA Modeling Environment and actively participate in architecture governance and quality review
