What is a solutions architect?

A solutions architect designs computer and information systems customized to a client's needs. As a solutions architect, you often work with universities, government institutions, and other business enterprises that require an expansive network of computers. Your responsibilities include improving existing system architecture, developing new networking solutions, and testing systems to detect potential issues. You work with developers, on staff IT specialists, and even the everyday users to understand the client’s needs. Your job is either to build a system from scratch, or to design effective, efficient software and hardware solutions and ensure they are integrated smoothly into the existing infrastructure.

How does a solutions architect typically collaborate with other teams during a project?

A Solutions Architect frequently works alongside project managers, developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to ensure that technical solutions align with business goals. This role involves translating business requirements into technical specifications, facilitating communication between technical and non-technical teams, and overseeing the implementation process. Effective collaboration is key, as Solutions Architects must often mediate between differing viewpoints and ensure that solutions are scalable, secure, and cost-effective. Regular meetings, workshops, and design sessions are common to maintain alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Solutions Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Solutions Architect, you need a solid background in systems design, cloud technologies, and software development, often supported by a relevant degree and experience with large-scale IT projects. Proficiency with tools such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or TOGAF, are typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help you translate business needs into technical solutions and collaborate across teams. These competencies ensure you can design robust, scalable architectures that align with organizational goals and adapt to evolving requirements.

Job description

Join our Mission: Turn Insights into Action with BlueMarvel

BlueMarvel was inspired by a defining moment in human discovery - the "Blue Marble" photograph that showed our planet as one interconnected system. That same perspective guides our work today.

We help industrial teams move from data chaos to clarity by transforming complex, fragmented operational data into actionable intelligence. Our AI-powered platform connects data across systems to help teams see what's happening, understand why, and act with confidence.

From first insight through enterprise-scale intelligence, BlueMarvel helps organizations run safer, cleaner, and more efficiently.

Every Mission Needs a Value Navigator

We're looking for a Solutions Architect to join our Calgary-based team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives at the intersection of industrial operations, AI, and high-stakes enterprise sales - and who loves turning a customer's toughest operating challenges into a clear, quantified case for change.

In this role, you'll be the technical and value authority inside the deal. You'll work alongside our Account Executives to move opportunities from first conversation through close - leading discovery, building business cases, running Proof-of-Value engagements, and telling the BlueMarvel value story to everyone from the control room to the C-suite. You'll report to our Sales Leader & Head of Solutions Engineering and partner closely with Product & Deployment on the deeper technical pieces.

This is not a back-office role - you'll be in front of customers, shaping real deals that directly drive BlueMarvel's growth.

Key Responsibilities

Deal Progression & Value Leadership

Shape early-stage opportunities through value-driven discovery and hypothesis development. Engage across Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, IT/OT, and Leadership to translate customer challenges into operational KPIs and quantified business impact. Remove blockers to keep deals moving, and act as the value authority throughout the sales cycle - supporting expansion from single-site pilots to enterprise-wide adoption.

Proof-of-Value Execution

Define POV success criteria tied to business outcomes, operational KPIs, and financial impact. Align customer and internal stakeholders on scope, timeline, and expected value, and coordinate the technical build with Product & Deployment. Translate the results into executive-level value narratives that give customers the confidence to invest.

Demos & Storytelling

Deliver tailored demos aligned to industry, asset type, and audience - structured around problem, insight, action, and business impact. Partner with Product & Deployment to keep a sharp demo environment and adapt your message fluidly across site-level users, management, and executive leadership.

Technical Solutioning (with Product & Deployment)

Be the technical translator in the room - credible on OT/IT architecture, data pipelines, DCS environments, and security considerations, with the judgment to know when to bring in Product & Deployment. Scope technical fit early, surface integration and security questions before they become blockers, and make sure what we sell is what we can deliver.

Scale & Enablement

Build repeatable frameworks for discovery, value articulation, and POV execution. Create reusable assets - business-case templates, value hypotheses, demo narratives, and POV playbooks - that help our Account Executives become more self-sufficient and help us scale the way we win.

Skills for Liftoff

  • Strong business and industry acumen across energy, refining, LNG, chemicals, or similar asset-heavy industries.
  • Solid command of industrial automation - DCS environments, smart device managers, loop-tuning tools, alarm management and rationalization.
  • Enough fluency in OT/IT architecture, data pipelines, and cybersecurity to hold a credible technical conversation and know when to escalate to Product & Deployment.
  • Proven ability in value-based selling, multi-stakeholder engagement, and executive-level communication.
  • Comfortable leading discovery, building business cases, running POVs, delivering demos, and supporting the close.
  • A builder's instinct - you don't just do the work; you turn it into a repeatable playbook the whole team can use.

Why You'll Love Working Here

At BlueMarvel, connection is at the heart of everything we do. We're a tight-knit team that thrives on collaboration, curiosity, and shared wins. Whether we're shaping new product ideas, testing innovative tools, or grabbing lunch and a board game between meetings, teamwork is part of our everyday culture.

Our values are EPIC. We value Exploration, Precision, Impact, and Connection - and we live those values through open communication, trust, and shared ownership.

Ready to Apply?

If you're excited to be the value authority inside the deal and help industrial organizations turn insights into action, we'd love to hear from you. This is a full-time position based in Calgary (hybrid). Compensation is competitive and aligned with experience and includes participation in our sales commission plan.
