What is a solutions architect?

A solutions architect designs computer and information systems customized to a client's needs. As a solutions architect, you often work with universities, government institutions, and other business enterprises that require an expansive network of computers. Your responsibilities include improving existing system architecture, developing new networking solutions, and testing systems to detect potential issues. You work with developers, on staff IT specialists, and even the everyday users to understand the client’s needs. Your job is either to build a system from scratch, or to design effective, efficient software and hardware solutions and ensure they are integrated smoothly into the existing infrastructure.

How does a solutions architect typically collaborate with other teams during a project?

A Solutions Architect frequently works alongside project managers, developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to ensure that technical solutions align with business goals. This role involves translating business requirements into technical specifications, facilitating communication between technical and non-technical teams, and overseeing the implementation process. Effective collaboration is key, as Solutions Architects must often mediate between differing viewpoints and ensure that solutions are scalable, secure, and cost-effective. Regular meetings, workshops, and design sessions are common to maintain alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Solutions Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Solutions Architect, you need a solid background in systems design, cloud technologies, and software development, often supported by a relevant degree and experience with large-scale IT projects. Proficiency with tools such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or TOGAF, are typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help you translate business needs into technical solutions and collaborate across teams. These competencies ensure you can design robust, scalable architectures that align with organizational goals and adapt to evolving requirements.

What degree is needed for a solutions architect?

A solutions architect typically holds a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications, such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, can also enhance qualifications and demonstrate expertise in cloud architecture and design.

What does a solutions architect make?

A solutions architect typically earns a salary ranging from $100,000 to $160,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. They often receive additional compensation such as bonuses and benefits, and must have strong technical skills, certifications, and the ability to design complex systems for clients or organizations.

  • Collaborate with our engineering teams, sales teams, and technical domain leaders to define and refine the long-term strategic focus of CompuNet's AI offerings.
  • Stay ahead of emerging AI trends, industry standards, and competitive landscapes to continuously evolve our solution architecture.
  • Champion best practices for scalable, ethical, and high-performance AI deployment across our client base.

Minimum Requirements
  • 10+ years in IT architecture, enterprise engineering, and technical pre-sales, with at least 3 years specializing in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Generative AI solutions.
  • Pre-sales acumen with a proven track record of client-facing success.
  • Demonstratable ability to lead high-stakes business discussions marrying outcome to technical solutions in front of executive leadership teams (CIOs, CTOs, CISOs, Directors)
  • Fluency in technology domains like datacenter infrastructure, cloud platforms, enterprise networking, and collaboration ecosystems.
  • AI/ML proficiency including LLMs, RAG architectures, MCP, AI model deployment, and AI governance frameworks.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate deeply technical concepts to non-technical business stakeholders.
  • Experiencing scaling AI initiatives and driving enterprise-wide digital transformations within a consulting or systems integration environment.
