Project Overview:

Bechtel’s Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) Business Unit is designing, building and commissioning a semiconductor fab in Clay, NY. Job Summary:

The Construction Automation Lead is responsible for the day-to-day execution, support, and supervision of Construction Automation activities on an assigned construction project. This role serves as the primary on‑site delivery lead for digital tools, workflows, and system integrations supporting construction, project controls, ES&H, commissioning and startup, turnover activities, and other construction systems and platforms. The Construction Automation Lead combines hands-on subject matter expertise with first‑line supervisory responsibility. The role focuses on tactical execution, issue resolution, user adoption, and consistent application of approved M&T Construction Automation standards, tools, and configurations in the field. #LI-SM2

Major Responsibilities:
  • Execute and support day-to-day Construction Automation activities in support of construction execution and field operations 
  • Serve as the primary on‑site subject matter expert for Construction Automation systems, tools, and workflows 
  • Support deployment, configuration, and operation of approved Construction Automation systems in alignment with M&T standards 
  • Monitor system usage, data quality, and workflow execution and resolve issues impacting daily operations 
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and operational support for site digital systems and integrations 
  • Translate field execution needs and requests into practical automation solutions within approved standards and configurations 
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of Construction Automation Specialists, as assigned 
  • Support training, onboarding, and user adoption efforts for project teams and contractors 
  • Identify recurring operational issues or risks and escalate systemic items to project or Construction Automation leadership as appropriate 
  • Capture site‑level issues and lessons learned and provide continuous improvement recommendations to the M&T Construction Automation function
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent)  in Engineering, Construction Management, Information Systems, or a related discipline and 8 -10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • 10+ years of experience supporting construction or capital project digital systems 
  • Hands‑on experience with construction automation platforms and digital workflows in an EPC or construction environment 
  • Strong understanding of construction workflows, field execution, and site-level data requirements 
  • Experience supporting project controls, ES&H, quality, commissioning, and various other systems and platforms used on major capital projects 
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot system, workflow, and integration issues in active project environments 
  • Experience supervising and mentoring technical staff in a project setting 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with field personnel, project leadership, contractors, and client representatives
