What is a solution project manager?

Solution Project Managers are professionals responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing projects that deliver tailored solutions to meet client or organizational needs. They coordinate teams, manage resources, set timelines, and ensure that project goals align with business objectives. Their role often involves working closely with clients, stakeholders, and technical teams to ensure project deliverables are completed on time and within budget. Solution Project Managers need strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to navigate complex projects successfully.

HFG Architecture is a planning and design firm focused on bringing accessible healthcare to the communities we serve. We are leaders in the industry of healthcare design and provide high quality services for our clients. Our offices in Wichita, Kansas City, Tulsa, and Northwest Arkansas are comprised of diverse team members committed to designing exceptional health facilities. Services include architectural design, planning, medical equipment coordination, and interior design. For 30 years, we've served rural and urban communities by working with Critical Access Hospitals, healthcare systems, regional hospitals, and independent clinics in more than 20 states and three countries. At HFG, We Make Space for Care.

About the Role

As a Project Manager at HFG Architecture, a leading healthcare architecture firm, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing architectural projects from conception to completion. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, collaborate with clients, and ensure successful project execution. Your expertise in project management, healthcare design, and client relations will contribute to the timely delivery of high-quality architectural solutions.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

Project Management:

  • Oversee all phases of healthcare architecture projects—from planning and schematic design through construction administration and closeout.
  • Define project scope, schedules, deliverables, and resource plans; monitor and adjust to maintain profitability and quality.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Lead project documentation efforts, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with building codes, regulations, and healthcare standards.
  • Develop and manage project budgets in coordination with internal teams and clients; identify and address potential budgetary concerns.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, cultivating strong, long-term relationships built on trust and transparency.
  • Actively engage clients throughout the design and construction process, setting expectations, providing updates, and addressing concerns.
  • Represent the firm in project presentations, community engagement, and client meetings.

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and design excellence.
  • Mentor and support team members, providing guidance and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Coordinate across project teams and with firm principals throughout the design and execution phases to ensure alignment and successful project delivery.

Design & Documentation Oversight:

  • Provide strategic input and design direction throughout all phases of the project.
  • Review and approve drawings, specifications, and documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project goals.
  • Ensure all design work complies with applicable codes, healthcare guidelines (including FGI), and client standards.

Construction Administration:

  • Provide oversight during construction phases, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, conducting site visits, and addressing field conditions.
  • Monitor construction progress and collaborate with contractors to resolve issues and ensure design intent is maintained.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain working knowledge of relevant healthcare codes and standards (e.g., FGI, ADA, IBC, NFPA).
  • Conduct regular quality control reviews and implement corrective actions as needed to uphold design integrity and performance.

Travel Requirements:

This role requires approximately 10-20% travel for project-related needs, including site visits, client meetings, and occasional industry events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Project Manager in an architectural or construction environment, including managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong knowledge of architectural design, construction processes, and project management principles.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in architecture, with a strong emphasis on healthcare projects.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare design codes and regulations (e.g., FGI Guidelines, ADA, IBC).
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office. Experience with project management software preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and problem-solving abilities.
