Solidworks Simulation information

What is SolidWorks Simulation?

SolidWorks Simulation is a suite of analysis tools integrated into the SolidWorks CAD software that allows engineers and designers to test and validate their 3D models virtually. It uses finite element analysis (FEA) to simulate real-world conditions such as stress, heat, vibration, and motion, helping to predict product performance before physical prototypes are built. SolidWorks Simulation helps reduce development time and costs by identifying potential design issues early in the process, enabling better decision-making and product optimization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a SolidWorks Simulation engineer?

To thrive as a SolidWorks Simulation Engineer, you need a strong background in mechanical engineering principles, finite element analysis (FEA), and proficiency with SolidWorks software, often supported by an engineering degree. Familiarity with simulation modules, CAD integration, and relevant certifications like CSWP-Simulation are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set standout professionals apart in this role. These skills are crucial for producing accurate simulations that inform design decisions and ensure product reliability and safety.

What are some common challenges faced when using SolidWorks Simulation in a collaborative engineering environment?

One common challenge when using SolidWorks Simulation in a team setting is ensuring that simulation models are properly integrated with ongoing CAD design changes. Collaboration often requires clear communication between design engineers and simulation specialists to keep analysis files up to date and relevant. Additionally, managing version control and avoiding overwriting each other's work can be complex without a well-defined workflow. Teams often address these challenges by using Product Data Management (PDM) systems and establishing standardized procedures for model sharing and documentation.

What is the difference between Solidworks Simulation vs Mechanical Engineer?

AspectSolidworks SimulationMechanical Engineer
CredentialsCAD and simulation software proficiency, certifications like CSWA or CSWPEngineering degree (B.S. or higher), professional licensure often preferred
Work EnvironmentDesign firms, manufacturing, product developmentEngineering firms, manufacturing, R&D departments
Industry UsagePrimarily in product design, testing, and analysisDesign, analysis, project management, and oversight

Solidworks Simulation specialists focus on performing finite element analysis and testing within CAD environments, while Mechanical Engineers have broader roles including design, analysis, and project management. Both roles often collaborate but differ in scope and responsibilities.

This organization is recognized globally for delivering innovative marine products and technologies. Engineers in this environment tackle complex technical challenges, drive product innovation, and play a key role in developing industry-leading products from concept through production.  The CAE Engineer will lead the development and analysis of marine propellers and related marine products through the application of advanced simulation, modeling, and testing methodologies. This position will focus heavily on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), structural analysis, product optimization, and validation activities to support new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Summary
We are seeking an experienced CAE Engineer with deep expertise in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and STAR-CCM+. This role will serve as a subject matter expert for hydrodynamic analysis, simulation-driven design, and advanced engineering processes supporting marine product development. The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical capabilities with hands-on product development experience, leveraging CFD, FEA, optimization techniques, and testing to deliver high-performance solutions.

Responsibilities
Lead the development and optimization of marine propellers and related marine products from concept through production.
Serve as the technical expert for CFD analysis, with primary responsibility for simulations performed using STAR-CCM+.
Perform hydrodynamic analysis to evaluate and improve product performance, efficiency, durability, and reliability.
Conduct structural and durability assessments utilizing Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Develop and implement advanced CAE methodologies and simulation processes to enhance product development effectiveness.
Execute 1-way and 2-way coupled CFD/FEA analyses to support product design and validation.
Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, testing, and product development teams throughout the engineering lifecycle.
Coordinate and support on-water testing, product validation, and performance evaluation activities.
Analyze test data and correlate physical results with simulation models to improve accuracy and predictive capability.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in engineering processes, product performance, and development efficiency.
Support design optimization efforts through simulation-driven development and formal optimization techniques.
Develop custom analysis tools and automation solutions using programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C/C++.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
3+ years of product development experience within consumer, industrial, marine, automotive, aerospace, or related industries.
Expert-level proficiency in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), including extensive hands-on experience using STAR-CCM+.
Demonstrated experience developing, validating, and interpreting complex CFD models.
Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, hydrodynamics, turbulence modeling, and simulation best practices.
Experience applying Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to product development.
Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, CAESES, or similar platforms.
Experience working within cross-functional engineering teams.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
