Job description

The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding an experienced Senior Energy Project Manager to help expand our energy practice and support a variety of projects from concept through completion in a dynamic consulting environment.
With decades of national experience, Tetra Tech offers extensive technical expertise and a strong understanding of energy development. From planning, siting, evaluation, and permitting through design, construction, operation, and maintenance, Tetra Tech supports clients throughout the energy project lifecycle.
The successful candidate will bring a strong technical background and demonstrated leadership experience supporting energy projects, with an emphasis on commercial-, utility-, and distributed-generation-scale solar photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage systems (BESS), natural gas power generation, onshore wind, and/or electric transmission projects.
This position will have a significant seller-doer component, combining project and technical leadership with client development and business growth responsibilities. The successful candidate will develop and strengthen client relationships, identify and pursue new opportunities, and collaborate with Tetra Tech professionals across multiple disciplines to successfully execute energy projects.
The Senior Energy Project Manager will support and provide environmental services throughout project development, design, construction, and operation. Services may include due diligence, project feasibility, natural and cultural resource evaluations, regulatory permitting, environmental studies, compliance support for operating assets, and coordination with engineering teams.
The ideal candidate will have established relationships within the energy market and a demonstrated track record of developing business and winning work. This individual will collaborate with other project managers, environmental leads, account managers, and operational leadership to help establish the strategic direction and continued growth of Tetra Tech's environmental and energy practice.
This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position and is eligible for hybrid or remote work arrangements.

Essential Job Functions:
Project & Technical Leadership
  • Serve as Project Manager or Technical Advisor for complex energy projects.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, staffing, quality, and overall project performance.
  • Develop technical approaches, proposals, and cost estimates and direct multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Lead and manage federal, state, and local permitting processes for complex energy projects.
  • Provide strategic guidance to clients and project teams in navigating complex project and regulatory challenges.
  • Oversee teams responsible for environmental planning, permitting, and compliance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permit requirements.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, clients, internal technical teams, and external organizations.
  • Work closely with Operations Managers, Energy Initiative Leads, and Business Unit Leaders to deliver safe, high-quality, profitable, and sustainable projects.
  • Provide leadership to project teams and promote accountability for project responsibilities, schedules, and milestones.
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of engineering and engineering design for energy projects, as applicable.

Business Development & Client Leadership
  • Work with local offices, existing Tetra Tech account managers, operations leaders, and market leads to expand existing client accounts.
  • Develop, strengthen, and grow relationships with energy clients, including utilities and developers.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the energy market.
  • Participate in client marketing and business development activities, including proposal development, technical presentations, client meetings, trade shows, and development of marketing materials.
  • Collaborate across the Tetra Tech organization to identify resources and develop multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Engage with existing and prospective clients to identify new opportunities and expand Tetra Tech's services.
  • Support strategic growth of Tetra Tech's national Energy Practice.
  • Conduct activities in accordance with company procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of technical knowledge and industry awareness.
  • Work safely at all times and report health and safety observations, near misses, and incidents.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Urban or Regional Planning, Environmental Policy, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, with additional experience preferred, in energy project development, environmental consulting, business development, environmental assessments, and federal, state, and local regulatory compliance and permitting.
  • Working knowledge of planning, siting, permitting, design, and construction associated with energy facilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of state siting and permitting processes.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to develop client relationships, identify opportunities, and support or lead successful business development efforts.
  • Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision while effectively prioritizing and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong leadership, diplomatic, motivational, and team-building skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple business and technical organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment while promoting teamwork, innovation, and technical excellence.
  • Experience developing project budgets, proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates.
  • Demonstrated success delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Experience leading and managing internal and external project resources while maintaining accountability for performance.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Compensation:
Pay commensurate with experience.
Pay Range: $110,000-$150,000 annually
