Job description

About the role: Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Techniciansupports the installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of battery energy storage systems. You have an electrical or electro‑mechanical background working with high-voltage systems in the renewables industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform installation, commissioning, inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of BESS equipment, including batteries, inverters, transformers, EMS, and balance-of-system components
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and control system issues using schematics, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance following OEM manuals and site procedures
  • Monitor system performance and respond to alarms, faults, and outages
  • Safely work with high-voltage DC and AC systems while following all OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards
  • Complete service reports, maintenance logs, and incident documentation accurately
  • Support system upgrades, retrofits, and warranty work
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and third-party vendors during site activities
  • Travel to project sites and participate in on-call or emergency response rotations

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in electrical, power generation, renewable energy, or energy storage systems
  • Experience with electrical fundamentals, including DC systems, three-phase AC power, and control circuits
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals
  • Experience working safely around high-voltage equipment
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, insulation testers, and laptops for system interfaces
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass background and drug screening
  • Prior hands-on experience with BESS, solar PV, or wind generation systems
  • NFPA 70E, OSHA 10/30, or similar safety certifications
  • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery technologies and thermal management systems
  • Experience with SCADA, monitoring platforms, or data analysis tools
  • Sungrow PT1, PT2 experience

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 lbs. and climb ladders or stairs
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including nights or weekends
