Job description

ION Solar is a rapidly expanding, full-service residential solar company with a strong nationwide presence. Our dedicated team is committed to making solar energy accessible and affordable for homeowners across the country.

PV Designer contributes to Ion Solar by creating a high-quality, installable product for our customers and installation professionals. We excel in upscaling PV Design subject matter expertise for system production, electrical design, and structural design, and skill set for individual and team development. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed and accurate Photovoltaic (PV) Designs, plan sets, and BOMs that fulfill all system production, electrical, and structural criteria, and requirements for the project's success through installation and jurisdiction review.
  • Responsible for performance values of top quality and high efficiency for merit-based growth and company objectives.
  • Complete all necessary rework associated with each completed project requested by the customer or by any associated jurisdiction.
  • Responsible for learning and mastering PV Design related subject matter expertise and industry code standards to avoid unnecessary rework, and reduce costs in terms of labor and material for all departments using design deliverables.
  • Work closely with structural engineers and master electricians for accurate and cost-efficient design decisions.
  • Coordinate and problem-solve with internal departments and field operations to resolve ongoing and new issues, prioritize assignments, handle project escalations, and maintain project timeline expectations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Efficient with construction-related codes and requirements preferred (ie. NEC, IRC, IBC, etc.)
  • Ability to manage time effectively and make quick accurate decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other team members, engineering, and other operations teams.
  • Proficiency in drafting related software such as AutoCAD with excellent computer skills.
  • Self-driven to bring top performance to the team.
  • Ability to work in a team as well as work independently.
  • Detail-oriented individual who can deliver high-quality projects end-to-end.

Education and Experience:

  • Degree or Certificate from a Technical College or field experience in a relevant trade
  • Solar experience preferred

Working Conditions:

Fast-paced, open floor office environment with significant computer usage. Utilization of complex systems. Speed and accuracy are essential to the successful completion of tasks.

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. May encounter interruptions throughout the work day.
