What is a solar drone inspection?

A solar drone inspection is the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) equipped with cameras and sensors to assess the condition and performance of solar panels and solar farms. These drones capture high-resolution images and thermal data to quickly identify issues such as dirt buildup, cracks, faulty connections, or hotspots without the need for manual inspection. This method increases efficiency, reduces downtime, and improves safety by eliminating the need for technicians to physically access hard-to-reach or hazardous areas.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in solar drone inspection?

To thrive as a Solar Drone Inspection Specialist, you need expertise in drone operation, understanding of photovoltaic systems, and relevant certifications such as Part 107 Remote Pilot License. Familiarity with drone flight software, thermal imaging cameras, and data analysis tools is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are standout soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure accurate data collection, safe operations, and actionable reporting for maintaining solar panel efficiency.

What are the typical challenges faced in solar drone inspection, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in solar drone inspection often encounter challenges such as adverse weather conditions, technical malfunctions with drones, and the need to interpret complex thermal imagery. Managing these challenges involves thorough pre-flight planning, routine equipment maintenance, and staying up-to-date with the latest drone and imaging technologies. Additionally, successful inspectors collaborate closely with site managers and maintenance teams to ensure that inspection data is accurately integrated into maintenance workflows, making strong communication skills essential.

Job description

Company Description

Class Roofing is a locally owned and operated roofing company based in Newark, DE, specializing in residential roof repair and replacement. Founded in 2022, we are built by world-class professionals who bring a hospitality-driven approach to every project, ensuring homeowners feel valued and supported. Our team thrives on Competition, Superior Standards, and Selflessness, creating an experience that goes beyond just roofing. Join us and be part of a company redefining what it means to put a roof over one's head.

Role Overview

We are hiring an in-home Sales Rep to sit at the kitchen table with homeowners, present roofing solutions, and close deals. This is a commission-only role with company leads provided, a company vehicle, and uncapped earning potential. If you've sold in-home for a roofing, solar, HVAC, windows, or exteriors company and you're ready to make a real run at six figures with a team that has your back, this is your seat.

Responsibilities

  • Run company-provided in-home sales appointments from inspection to signed contract.
  • Inspect roofs, document conditions, and build clear, accurate scopes of work.
  • Present roofing options, financing, and pricing in the home — answer homeowner questions and close on the first appointment whenever possible.
  • Canvass at and around every sold job to generate additional opportunities in the neighborhood.
  • Self-generate leads through referrals, door knocking, and your personal network — earn bonus commission on every self-gen deal.
  • Manage your pipeline in CRM with accurate notes, follow-ups, and timely updates.
  • Stay in touch with homeowners through production and after the job — referrals come from how you treat people after the sale.
  • Communicate clearly with the production team so every sold deal is set up to win.
  • Hit individual sales targets and contribute to company production goals.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of in-home sales experience (roofing, solar, HVAC, windows, exteriors, or another residential home service).
  • Door-knocking or canvassing experience is a plus — not required.
  • Proven track record of closing deals at the kitchen table, not just generating leads or quoting jobs.
  • Comfortable on a roof, or willing to learn safe inspection practices.
  • Strong communication and active listening skills — homeowners need to trust you fast.
  • Tech-comfortable with CRM, Apps, Drone, and financing platforms, or willing to learn quickly.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record (company vehicle provided).
  • Flexible schedule that includes some evenings and Saturdays — that's when homeowners are home.
  • Self-motivated and accountable — commission-only means you set the pace.
  • High level of professionalism, follow-through, and integrity in every homeowner interaction.

Results & Communication Standards

  • All appointments, notes, photos, contracts, and follow-ups are logged in CRM in real time.
  • Sold deals are handed off cleanly to the production team with full scope, photos, color and material selections, and homeowner expectations documented.
  • Homeowner satisfaction stays at or above 4.8/5 from first appointment through final walkthrough — your reviews drive future leads.
  • Self-generated leads and canvassing activity are tracked and reported weekly.
  • Individual close rate, average ticket, and gross margin meet company targets.
  • The owner is kept informed of pipeline, blockers, and competitive intel through weekly sales meetings and proactive communication.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Commission only — straight commission with unlimited earning potential
  • Earning Potential - Unlimited
  • Bonus commission paid on every self-generated lead
  • Company vehicle
  • Company gas card
  • Company-issued iPad
  • Company phone
