SOLV Energy is a leading provider of infrastructure services to the power industry, designing, building and maintaining utility scale solar, battery storage and high voltage substation projects nationwide.

Job Description Summary:

The BESS Engineer I is responsible for the support of design, development, and implementation of BESS projects. The BESS Engineer I should have a solid understanding of power systems, BESS equipment, and relevant industry standards. This role provides support to the BESS engineering oversight to ensure successful delivery of BESS solutions that meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements.
This role is fully remote. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Review the design and engineering of utility scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), ensuring compliance with contracts, utilities, and AHJ requirements under supervision.

  • Serve as a technical contributor across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV engineering scopes across multiple projects.

  • Coordinate with Engineers of Record and third-party engineering partners to ensurescopeclarity andtimelydelivery.

  • Coordinate with fire protection engineers and local fire departments/ AHJ's.

  • Support procurement with technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for BESS components.

  • Provide technical oversight during procurement including vendor recommendations and drawing reviews under supervision.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.

  • Participate in system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability.

  • Provide engineering support during construction, including field issue resolution, design clarifications, and minor redesigns.

  • Provide engineering support for testing, validation, commissioning, energization, and initial synchronization.

  • Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Support business development through proposals, presentations, and technical consultations.

  • Represent SOLV Engineering in customer and client meetings.

  • Participate in regular team meetings/ calls.

  • Travel as required to support project execution.

  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • 1+ years of electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems.

  • Knowledge of design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems; including lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS (Battery Management Systems), and grid interconnection equipment.

  • Familiarity with BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.

  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards).

  • Understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).

  • Understanding of communication protocols used in SCADA and Energy Management Systems (IEC 61850).

  • Working knowledge of EPC engineering workflows, including design deliverables, submittals, document control, and coordination with engineering partners

  • Experience supporting solar, BESS, power, or civil/site projects, including exposure to pre-construction and execution phases

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and resources.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to dynamic project requirements, and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.

  • ProficiencyinAutoCAD,Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Bluebeam, with ability tomaintaintrackers, logs, schedules, and reports
