Solar Quality Technician
Location: Barrington, IL (75% Regional Travel – Illinois job sites)


Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Solar Quality Technician to support solar construction projects across Illinois. This role is highly field-based, with approximately 75% travel to project sites each week, making it ideal for someone who enjoys being on-site and actively involved in project execution. A company vehicle or mileage reimbursement is provided.

The Solar Quality Technician serves as a key resource to project teams, ensuring quality, safety, constructability, and proper installation practices. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining product reliability and supporting quality control engineering in alignment with company and factory standards.


Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop Job-Specific Quality Plan (JSQP) documents
  • Verify construction activities align with contract specifications and design drawings through inspections, planning, and documentation review
  • Conduct sample audits and monitor daily/weekly production to ensure consistent quality and stability
  • Collect and analyze data; review test reports related to product reliability and performance
  • Assist with project mock-ups, including coordination and evaluation
  • Perform field reviews using photography and documentation, recommending corrective actions as needed
  • Travel extensively to multiple project sites each week to monitor progress and quality standards 
  • Continuously learn and take on new responsibilities to support professional growth and team success

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in construction management or related field
  • Solid understanding of construction drawings and plan sets
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to learn new technologies and construction software
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) ASTM standards and construction testing procedures
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Experience in solar construction projects
  • Knowledge across construction trades related to solar, especially mechanical and electrical scopes
