Tetra Tech is adding an experienced Civil Engineer to support energy and land development projects, with a focus on renewable energy (solar) and site development. This role involves engineering design, permitting support, and coordination with regulatory agencies, while contributing to the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Support and lead engineering design for energy-related and land development projects
  • Lead or support site plan development and zoning approval processes for renewable energy projects
  • Prepare and support stormwater management and erosion & sediment control (ESC) plans and approvals
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, including floodplain evaluations
  • Design and support implementation of stormwater infrastructure, BMPs, and green infrastructure solutions
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including planners, environmental scientists, and project managers
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineering staff
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 8-10 years of experience in engineering design for energy and/or land development projects
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Stormwater design (quality and quantity)
    • Hydrology and hydraulics
    • Floodplain analysis
  • Experience with stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and regulatory approvals
  • Working knowledge of land development principles (grading, utilities, site layout, wetlands, traffic, etc.)
  • Proficiency with industry software such as:
    • HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Bluebeam
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work both independently and within a team
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with renewable energy projects, particularly utility-scale solar
  • Experience leading municipal site plan and zoning approvals
  • Experience working within Virginia and neighboring states
  • Virginia Dual Combined Administrator certification (or ability to obtain)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform office-based engineering work with occasional field visits
  • Ability to review detailed plans and technical documents for extended periods

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

  • Office-based with occasional field/site visits
  • Hybrid work flexibility may be available depending on project needs
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions during site inspections

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $115,000-$140,000 annually
