Job description

Under the direction of a licensed pharmacist and following established policies and procedures, the Pharmacy Technician Senior performs a variety of technical procedures to support pharmacy operations. Teaches and trains Pharmacy Technician Associates, new Pharmacy Technicians, interns, and students and participates in safety and quality improvement projects. Assists with development of departmental policies, procedures, and training program materials.

Job Status: PRN (as needed)
Shift: Varied day shifts, Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm. Hours may vary based on the needs of the department, this may also include holidays.
This position will be supporting our Briargate Clinic.
Salary Information
Hourly Range: $22.50 to $32.03 *Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Position is eligible for PRN shift differential.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Independently prepares medication for dispensing/patient administration in accordance with hospital policy and procedure. Assists trainees with medication preparation.
• Manages medication inventory within scope, including auditing department policies and procedures to manage outdated medications, cycle counts, unit inspections and medication transfers. Restocks medications as needed.
• Collaborates on process improvement assessment of medications for dispensing through pharmacy software while verifying all lot and expiration numbers; follows appropriate pharmacy software procedures when preparing medications.
• Identifies and audits standard pharmaceutical/medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in the prescribing and dispensing of medications.
• Performs and provides training on arithmetic calculations required in medication preparation.
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, environmental and infection control standards, adheres to regulatory requirements and maintains environmental cleanliness of the pharmacy areas in accordance with regulatory and policy requirements including accreditation.
• Reports errors and adverse drug events using the hospital variance reporting program (QSRS). Assists error investigations in partnership with department leaders.
• Maintains and audits daily workflow to meet established priorities and production requirements and completes daily operations tasks utilizing assigned applications and software.
• Teaches and trains pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, pharmacy residents, interns, and students. Performs competency assessment of pharmacy technician staff through observation of technician skills and knowledge.
• Drives safety and quality improvement projects for the department and/or organization.
• Assists with development of departmental policies and procedures and training programs related to pharmacy operations.
• May assist with shipping medications, monthly clinical assessments and ordering medications.
• May interact and communicate with patients, families, providers, and co-workers including point of sale, benefit investigation and insurance coordination.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION - High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE - One (1) year of pharmacy technician experience
CERTIFICATION(S) -
• State of Colorado Pharmacy Technician (PHAT) Certification
• Certificate through a nationally recognized certification board or body approved by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcare Association (NHA)
• Inpatient only: PTCB/ASHP Sterile Compounding Tech (within 1 year of hire)
