About the role

Muon seeks a Staff Software Engineer to join our Software Test team. An ideal candidate is an expert in software testing processes, an accomplished software tool developer, and experienced with Hardware-in-the-Loop and Simulations driven testing. In this role, you will shape the best-practices and architecture of our software testing infrastructure. You will work with leaders across our department to establish testing policy and deliver testing capabilities, improving our velocity and ability to launch successful missions. This position is based at our San Jose, CA office.

Responsibilities 
  • Be the leading team member for Muon's Software Test infrastructure team.
  • Work closely with engineering management to understand our software testing infrastructure needs and deliver solutions to enable rapid delivery of quality flight and ground software.
  • Define department-wide metrics for test health, and develop automated reporting techniques to motivate measurable improvement.
  • Integrate feedback from client teams to drive iterative improvements to our testing tools and procedures.
  • Work with our Hardware Engineering and Manufacturing teams to expand Hardware-in-the-Loop testing capabilities.
  • Work closely with the Simulation team to integrate simulation tools into automated testing campaigns.
  • Collaborate with management to improve team estimation and planning.
  • Define success metrics to drive team alignment with company goals.
  • Mentor Test and Simulation team engineers.
Qualifications 
  • Proven ability to deliver comprehensive department-scale testing procedures and infrastructure, including Hardware-in-the-Loop integration testing.
  • Experience designing infrastructure or orchestration for running and reporting on end-to-end integration tests on large multi-component systems.
  • B.S. or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 10+ years' experience as a software engineer in a team environment.
  • Strong programming experience in Python.
  • Familiarity with common electronics test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers).
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines (e.g. Github Actions).
  • Familiarity with Linux systems administration and Docker containers.
  • Willingness to operate in novel technical domains.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Nice-to-have Skills
  • Knowledge of C/C++.
  • Fluency in statistical analysis.
  • Experience testing embedded hardware projects, like robotics, autonomous vehicles, or aerospace.
  • Familiarity with cloud deployment environments, like Kubernetes and virtual instances.
  • Experience with Software-in-the-Loop simulation.
Salary

The salary range for this role is $210,000 - $234,000 plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
