Basic Job Functions:

The Electrician will apply their knowledge of general electrical engineering and maintenance principles to support our maintenance and production teams through electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repair across assigned areas of our mill.  This position will require working at varying heights and with medium and high voltage systems throughout our facility. This role requires a safety-first mindset and a commitment to world-class reliability. This position requires building trusted relationships and working with teams across the entire plant.  Successful teammates in this role demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement through both expanding their technical knowledge and mentoring others (interns, apprentices, peers). The position operates on a rotating shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate's degree in industrial electricity or equivalent certificate OR 2+ years experience with industrial electrical maintenance troubleshooting and repair

Experience with medium/high voltage systems

Detailed Selection Criteria:

Electrical Knowledge - Knowledge of basic electrical theory, including basic troubleshooting, installation, repair and/or maintenance of electronic equipment.

Electrical Machines - Knowledge and experience with AC/DC motors, AC/DC drives, and transformers, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Maintenance Systems and Techniques - Knowledge of servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment.

Information Services - Knowledge of computers, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.

General Electrical Engineering & Maintenance Principles - Knowledge of the practical application of basic electrical engineering principles. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to work at hand.

Mechanical Knowledge - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and/or maintenance.

Teamwork - Working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal.

Preferences:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Previous electrical experience in the steel-making industry
  • 3+ years of experience in advanced troubleshooting of industrial electrical systems and circuits
  • 3+ years of experience in advanced troubleshooting of motor starters and drives, both AC and DC
  • Basic understanding of PLC programming software and experience in troubleshooting using ladder logic
  • Experience in troubleshooting hydraulic or pneumatic systems
  • Experience with visualization programming
  • Experience with maintaining industrial instrumentation and calibration
