About the Role

Are you looking for an opportunity to contribute to the design of software that will be used nationally, by both Do-It-Yourself clients and in retail and franchise offices? If you love to solve puzzles and are excited about designing software solutions that impact millions of taxpayers and improve overall customer experiences, then a Tax Compliance and Accuracy Team role is for you!

 We are looking for a tax enthusiast and problem solver with experience on a wide variety of complex tax issues as well as a deep understanding of the Canadian tax system including both federal (CRA) and Quebec (RQ) taxes, who is passionate about getting things right.

As a Senior Tax Compliance Analyst reporting to the Lead, Tax Compliance, you will be part of a collaborative, agile team responsible for the end-to-end design, testing, maintenance, compliance, and accuracy of the tax software. You will work closely with software developers and tax compliance developers, leveraging your technical skills to provide detailed guidance while maintaining a holistic view of the software's objectives.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Act as a Canadian tax subject matter expert for Product Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, Content Writers, and User Experience Specialists
  • Collaborate with user-experience designers, technical writers, business domain experts, database administrators and quality assurance to build new products and features which will support business growth
  • Work with cross-functional teams to scope project deliverables, dependencies, and timelines
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of personal taxation and the ability to interpret tax law, research complex tax scenarios, and explain them in a way that is easy for people to understand
  • Audit software applications for the validity of results, accuracy, reliability, and compliance with Canadian Federal and Provincial tax regulations (including Quebec)
  • Document software defects, and support and coordinate with developers and tax programmer analysts across Canada and Offshore to fix issues and implement improvements and recommendations
  • Review tax forms, create test plans using complex tax scenarios and ensure accuracy of tax calculations
  • Work with the Tax Platform developers to ensure scalability and performance improvements of new and existing features
  • Create, review, and execute test cases based on varying personal income tax scenarios; develop, maintain, and execute automated tests to ensure accuracy and compliance of tax products
  • Plan and lead regression testing for software releases
  • Assist with managing ad hoc requests and delegating business requests to ensure timely completion of deliverables. Contribute to work effort estimation and project planning activities
  • Lead and execute CRA and Revenu Quebec (RQ) certification activities
  • Support, coach, and mentor Tax Platform team members
  • Test software in English and French
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field, and a minimum of five years of relevant experience, ideally in personal income tax preparation, tax research, or tax software development and testing
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience preparing a variety of Federal and Provincial tax returns (e.g. student, pension, self-employed, rental property, investments, foreign income, etc.)
  • Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Course or similar education program is a strong asset
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Quebec personal income tax preparation is an asset
  • Experience with software programming is an asset but not a requirement; interactive Java programming classes will be offered as part of the training for this role.
  • Experience testing financial software applications would be an asset
