Job description

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a skilled and detail-focused QA Engineer I to join our team in Nashville, TN.

Summary: This position will validate the accuracy, reliability, performance, and usability of reporting and analytics solutions developed using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Tableau. This position is designated as a member of the Data Analytics Scrum Team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate early with Product Owners and Developers to refine user stories, acceptance criteria, and test scenarios, ensuring clear understanding of requirements and test coverage.
  • Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for SSRS reports and Tableau dashboards.
  • Validate SSRS reports and Tableau dashboards against business requirements, ensuring accuracy of calculations, filters, parameters, drilldowns, aggregations, and visual elements.
  • Execute SQL queries to reconcile backend data with front-end reporting outputs, identify discrepancies, and collaborate with developers, data engineers, and business analysts to ensure timely resolution.
  • Verify business logic, KPIs, and calculations displayed in dashboards and reports to ensure consistency and correctness.
  • Perform end to end data reconciliation between source systems and reporting layers to ensure data integrity.
  • Identify, document, and track defects using appropriate tools, and work closely with development and data teams for resolution and verification.
  • Conduct thorough regression testing to ensure report stability and reliability after enhancements or changes.
  • Validate report formatting, layout, and usability across multiple devices, browsers, and environments.
  • Test report scheduling, subscriptions, and data refresh processes to ensure accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Analyze report and dashboard performance issues and provide recommendations for optimization and improvement.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to clarify reporting requirements and ensure alignment with business expectations.
  • Maintain detailed and structured documentation of test scenarios, execution results, and validation processes to support traceability and knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s in computer science degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance.
  • Hands-on experience testing SSRS reports and Tableau dashboards, ensuring data accuracy and reporting reliability.
  • Solid experience in Quality Assurance with expertise in Azure DevOps for test management, defect tracking, and CI/CD integration, along with active participation in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL with the ability to validate complex business logic in SQL design and execute complex queries involving joins, subqueries, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), window functions, and transaction handling to support comprehensive data validation and testing.
  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong focus on data accuracy and validation, capable of analyzing complex datasets and ensuring data integrity through effective application of business rules.
  • Experience validating data transformations, business logic, and reporting outputs to ensure end-to-end data quality.
  • Familiarity with QA methodologies, test case design techniques, and defect tracking tools.
  • Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into clear, effective, and testable scenarios.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of analytics and reporting solutions through thorough validation and testing processes.
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying, driving, and supporting process improvements and automation within QA workflows.
  • Maintain strong collaboration and communication with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, contributing to positive feedback and effective alignment.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of reporting and dashboard standards, ensuring documentation is accurate, consistent, and user-friendly.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in performance testing and optimization of SSRS reports and Tableau dashboards to ensure efficiency, scalability, and responsiveness.
  • Some knowledge and exposure to Power BI would be desirable.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization best practices and dashboard design principles to support clear, accurate, and user-friendly reporting.
  • Hands-on experience developing automated report validation solutions using Playwright with C#, including scripting, framework design, and maintenance of scalable test automation suites.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integration of automated testing within reporting and analytics environments.
  • ISTQB certification or other relevant Quality Assurance certifications preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time. Requires frequent use of keyboard and mouse, must be able to wear a headset for prolonged periods. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
