Job description

Autonomy Engineer
Key Role:
Conduct the research, development, integration, deployment, and evaluation of robotic and unmanned systems across multiple operational domains and DoD warfighter mission areas. Function at the intersection of software and hardware to design, build, test, and demonstrate new robotic capabilities that address complex client problems in sensing, autonomy, and human interaction. Apply advanced engineering skills, extensive technical expertise, and full industry knowledge. Develop innovative solutions to complex problems. Work without considerable direction, and mentor and supervise team members.
Basic Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience developing and debugging software and algorithms in C/C++ for Linux-based embedded systems, including driver development and integration of sensors, platforms, and interfaces
  • 2+ years of experience developing autonomy algorithms such as localization and path planning for navigation
  • 2+ years of experience leading robotic software development efforts, including requirements specification, design, implementation, integration, planning, tasking, testing, and code reviews
  • 1+ years of experience integrating Sensor Fusion and State Estimation algorithms, including Kalman filters, particle filters, SLAM, and VIO
  • Knowledge of ROS2 to develop software for robotic applications
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a Robotics field

Additional Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience with computer vision, such as OpenCV, camera models, and camera calibrations
  • 2+ years of experience working with UAS platforms and PX4-based flight controllers
  • 2+ years of experience working with software containerization methods and utilities such as Docker and Docker-compose
  • Experience leading software development efforts following DevOps principles, including Agile, CI/CD, and test-driven development, and using automation tools, including pipelines and runners
  • Experience briefing DoD leaders and customers, and collecting requirements for defense missions
  • Experience with Universal Command and Control Interface (UCI) for UAS and Open Mission Systems (OMS)
  • Experience with QGroundControl
  • Secret clearance
  • Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a Robotics-related field preferred; Doctorate degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a Robotics-related field a plus
  • FAA Small UAS Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $99,000.00 to $225,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
