Summer Intern - Space Management & Project Support

As a Summer Intern - Space Management & Project Support, you'll join a collaborative healthcare facilities team where your academic interests, skills, and fresh perspective are valued. This paid summer internship is designed for non-Duke students currently enrolled in an associate, bachelor's, or graduate program who are eager to gain hands-on experience in healthcare operations, space management, and project delivery.
Interns are placed into one of three pathways aligned with their background, interests, and career goals, providing meaningful exposure while working alongside experienced professionals in a complex healthcare environment.

This role offers an opportunity to explore how large-scale healthcare facilities are planned, managed, and delivered-while contributing to real projects that support patient care and organizational efficiency.
What You'll Do
Depending on your assigned pathway, responsibilities may include:
Pathway 1: Space Management Support Intern
  • Assist leadership with operational, analytical, and administrative tasks
  • Support project management and process improvement initiatives
  • Conduct space analysis and data review
  • Participate in space planning and utilization efforts
  • Gain exposure to organizational decision-making and leadership practices

Pathway 2: Space Management - Modeling & Drafting Technician Intern
  • Organize and maintain Revit models
  • Draft and update drawings using AutoCAD
  • Provide technical support for space management analysis
  • Assist with documentation and drawing standards
  • Learn real-world application of BIM and drafting in a healthcare setting

Pathway 3: Project Management Intern (Healthcare Construction)
  • Assist with construction management activities on hospital projects
  • Support project managers with documentation, schedules, and coordination
  • Observe project planning, execution, and closeout processes
  • Gain insight into healthcare facility construction and delivery models

What You'll Bring
