Description

The Senior Software Development Manager plays a critical role in leading our software engineering teams who build our in-house insurance management system. This role will ensure the successful delivery of complex, cloud-based enterprise solutions. The Senior Software Development Manager is responsible for owning delivery outcomes across multiple agile delivery teams, providing technical and architectural leadership. The right individual will foster strong engineering culture and talent development along with being a trusted partner to business and product leaders. The Senior Software Development Manager will balance delivery excellence with long-term platform health and drive continuous improvement across engineering practices, processes, and teams. 


This is a hybrid remote role that requires onsite presence in Pittston, PA at least once every other month. Candidates must live within a reasonable driving distance of either the Pittston, PA or Omaha, NE BHDIC office for required onsite meetings as needed in whichever BHDIC office is local to the employee.   


Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee software engineering operations across 8-10 delivery teams 
  • Establish clear goals, metrics, and delivery expectations while empowering those teams to operate effectively and autonomously 
  • Own delivery outcomes across multiple initiatives to ensure predictable execution, high quality, effective risk management, and alignment to business priorities and roadmap 
  • Provide architectural and technical leadership, guiding design decisions, managing technical debt, and ensuring solutions align with enterprise architecture, security standards, and long-term platform strategy 
  • Mentor, coach, and develop senior engineers, technical leads, and people managers, building strong leadership pipelines and succession plans 
  • Act as a trusted technology partner to business leaders and product teams, translating business strategy into executable technology roadmaps and measurable outcomes 
  • Drive continuous improvement across engineering practices, delivery processes, and team culture, leveraging Scrum, Kanban, DevOps, and Lean principles to improve quality, velocity, and reliability 


Requirements

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Related field or equivalent working experience 
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in software development 
  • 5+ years in engineering leadership providing oversight of people, architecture, and delivery 
  • Proven experience providing technical and architectural leadership in a highly regulated industry (insurance, healthcare, finance, logistics, etc.)
  • Strong technical background in cloud-based enterprise systems with the ability to evaluate architecture, review designs, and guide technical decision-making, even if not coding daily 
  • Outstanding communication, collaboration ability, and attention to detail 
  • Understanding of architectural, design, and agile patterns and methodologies 
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives 
  • Proven ability to influence without authority across departments 
  • Experience scaling teams, platforms, or systems in a growth-oriented environment 
  • Strong understanding of software delivery governance, risk management, and compliance 
  • A servant leader who can build consensus even when there is not unanimity 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Practical working knowledge of C#, .NET, ASP.NET MVC, TypeScript, JavaScript frameworks (Angular, React, Aurelia, Vue etc.), Azure, and AI assisted technologies 
  • Commercial Property and Casualty insurance experience

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided. The salary range for this position is $160,000 to $210,000 per year. Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
