Description
The Center for Research in Emergent Manufacturing (CREM) is seeking a part-time (~20 hours/week) Senior Software Engineering Manager focused on cybersecurity products with a joint appointment as Research Associate Professor. The incumbent will lead product-focused engineering efforts, integrate applied research into production systems, as well as mentor engineers and students. The role bridges industry-grade product development with academic research to accelerate innovation and technology transfer.
Responsibilities:
  • Own product roadmap and architecture for cybersecurity offerings; drive delivery from concept to launch.
  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering team; recruit, coach, set goals, and manage execution.
  • Establish and enforce secure SDLC practices (threat modeling, code review, SAST/DAST, pentesting, SBOM/supply-chain security).
  • Lead DevSecOps across CI/CD, cloud (e.g., AWS/Azure), containers/Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code.
  • Ensure alignment with security and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-53/171, CMMC, ISO 27001, FedRAMP controls).
  • Translate research into product features; collaborate on grants; publish and present applied results.
  • Teach/mentor as Research Associate Professor; supervise graduate students and joint industry-academic projects.
  • Engage customers and stakeholders to gather requirements, define KPIs, and guide iterative improvements.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Cybersecurity (or closely related field).
  • Proven leadership in software engineering management and delivery of secure, scalable products.
  • Deep expertise in secure software development, identity and access management, cryptography fundamentals, and network/application security.
  • Projected salary will be $50,000 to $55,000 (part-time 20 hours/week position)
