The Senior DevOps Engineer is part of the API Delivery team, providing technical leadership and hands-on skills to help create, manage, and deploy API solutions into development and production environments which are pivotal to building modern digital assets.

The role focuses on day-to-day execution and supporting a scrum team of developers to achieve their tasks. In addition, the role requires experienced thought leadership and ability to drive initiatives that enable our development pipelines to continually be available and capable of meeting our partners' business needs. 

What you will do 

  • Act as the source of experience and knowledge and elevated problem solving for a scrum team of API developers and ensure they are supported effectively
  • Support API developers to ensure continuous availability, usability, and adherence to modern development standards and practices
  • When required, develop and deliver API solutions, especially for complex implementations spanning multiple services
  • Partner with product teams and/or architects to develop technical requirements and engineering/non-functional specifications
  • Resolve client issues as they arise
  • Facilitate and actively participate in walkthroughs and reviews of technical solutions
  • Deliver fixes and improvements to existing software products while adhering to industry standards
  • Build and contribute to design documentation and technical specifications for development
  • Oversee impact analysis to support proactive identification of actions to minimize production system interruptions
  • Evaluate and learn new technologies that provide business value and lead Proof of Concepts for new frameworks and tools and ways of working
  • Adapt to organizational change, best practice and improvements across teams, including the effective implementation and adherence to software development processes and practices
  • Train and collaborate with other practitioners in how to write effective code and solve problems
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer sessions as required
  • Specific tools/skillsets: API, microservices, and event-based software development with proficiency in technologies such as: 
    • Java and SQL programming languages 
    • REST- and SOAP-based services
    • Spring Boot framework
    • Apigee or equivalent API Gateway platform
    • Confluent Kafka or Apache ActiveMQ eventing platforms
    • JHipster code generation and Liquibase database utilities
    • Docker, Istio or Kubernetes container hosting platforms
    • Amazon Web Services
    • Tetrate Service Bridge 
    • GitLab DevOps Platform  
  • Qualifications:
    • Extensive software development experience in a team environment 
    • University or College education in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Interest in or active pursuit of related industry certifications are considered an asset 
    • Previous insurance experience will be considered an asset
  •  
  • Proficient experience with:  
    • Database systems and data access methods
    • Source code management and build automation systems 
    • Test-driven development and test frameworks  
    • Working with production/application support during a critical incident

  • Reliability Status Security Clearance - this can only be completed with candidates who receive an offer of employment. The base salary for this position is between $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
