Identify and resolve complex technical, operational, risk management, and organizational challenges for an LOB or several Sub LOBs
This role is accountable for building scalable, secure, and compliant solutions that improve operational efficiency, decisioning, and client experience through automation, artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI (GenAI), and agentic AI patterns.
Director II addresses complex technical, operational, and risk challenges across multiple teams or platforms, while driving adoption of modern engineering practices, AI-enabled architectures, and automation frameworks that accelerate business outcomes.
In an Agile environment: Act as an Agile champion. Primarily responsible for delivering high quality working software and automating manual/reusable tasks. Leverage engineering practices to deliver business value. Responsible for oversight of software engineering and unit testing and supporting integration and functional testing.
SCOPE: The differentiating factor between levels of SWE Director is scope, such as size of budget and headcount, and complexity of the business line and related technologies.


Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.


1. Direct the engineering and deployment of significant delivery projects in accordance with specified technical requirements, schedules and budgets, including Agile methodologies.
2. Oversee the planning, design, engineering, testing and deployment of application projects in conjunction with a variety of resources, which may include Waterfall or Agile approaches.
3. Develop departmental plans, including business, financial, production and/or organizational priorities based on IT and focuses on long-term operations planning and performance, and broader business objectives and priorities.
4. Apply an in-depth understanding of systems engineering and administration and a basic understanding of other IT disciplines in guiding and coaching team members.
5. Identify and resolve complex technical, operational, and organizational problems.
6. Impact results by supporting the funding of projects, products, services, and/or technologies.
7. Maintain appropriate Risk Profile through owning the first line of Risk defense, proactively identifying risks, and implementing the necessary mitigations where warranted. Partner effectively with 2nd line of defense, Auditor, and regulators to ensure Risk is identified and mitigated appropriately.
8. May play lead role or technical consultant role in large or complex projects or initiatives.
9. Has full management responsibilities for teammates: hiring, disciplinary, coaching, terminating, performance reviews.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree and equivalent education and experience, which could include any combination of eight years of experience in IT software engineering, five years' relevant business experience (i.e. making technical-related decisions on the business side), five years' experience in project management, and at least two years of management experience
2. Broad and in-depth knowledge of technology trends, competitive environment, regulatory requirements and trends, and IT strategies employed to continually meet the demands of clients and regulators
3. Ability to translate enterprise level strategic planning information into software and data management needs, create business plans, and turn them into effective business solutions
4. Executive level communications skills, including, strong negotiation/facilitation/presentation skills and experience negotiating with vendors for relevant products and services
5. Ability to solve unique and highly complex technical, operational, and organizational problems
6. Ability to lead and manage the performance of multiple teams against a set of financial and operational objectives
7. Experience managing projects with enterprise-wide implications from conception through implementation

Preferred Qualifications:1. Prior experience at a technology or product company, leading AI platform or applied ML development at scale.2. Hands-on experience with enterprise AI frameworks (Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar).3. Demonstrated success establishing AI engineering standards, reusable frameworks, or AI Centers of Excellence.4. Experience delivering GenAI applications for customer engagement, operations, or risk functions in complex organizations.5. Industry leadership through publications, open-source contributions, or conference presentations.6. Demonstrated, hands-on experience delivering and operating technology platforms within Wholesale Credit or Wholesale Lending domain.7. Experience with cloud-based AI platforms, automation frameworks, and data pipelines.8. Familiarity with responsible AI practices and enterprise model risk management.9. Extensive experience in software engineering leadership with accountability for large, complex delivery portfolios.10. Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise-scale automation and intelligent solutions.11. Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise-scale automation and intelligent solutions (AI, GenAI, and agentic AI concepts, including data dependencies) in regulated financial services environments.12. Proven ability to lead managers and senior engineers across multiple teams.*This position is 100% onsite, five days per week, based in either Atlanta, Charlotte, or Raleigh.
