Job description

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a highly skilled and forward-leaning Senior Software Architect to join the Smart Mobility Team in Atlanta, Georgia.

About the Role:

Passionate about the Smart Cities space? Interested in solving problems in how people move across urban ecosystems? This could be an ideal opportunity.

TransCore is seeking a highly skilled and forwardleaning Sr. Software Platform Architect who not only drives platformlevel architectural strategy but is also deeply handson in building, coding, and validating complex systems. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys shaping the architecture while actively developing AI/ML workflows, API frameworks, highthroughput data ingestion pipelines, and realtime transformation services.

You will play a critical role in defining, implementing, and scaling the SmartPass Mobility Platform—contributing both at the whiteboard and in the codebase—to help build a modern, cloudnative foundation powering future mobility experiences across agencies, partners, and consumerfacing applications.

Key Responsibilities:

You will serve as a senior technical leader, partnering closely with Engineering, Product, and Hardware/Laneside teams. You will help bridge the worlds of transportation infrastructure and modern cloud-native platforms.

  • Technical Leadership & Collaboration (Hands-on Focus): Work sidebyside with Platform Engineers, Backend Developers, DevOps, and Product teams—not just advising from the sidelines but actively rolling up your sleeves to develop, review, debug, and validate architectural decisions. Provide deep architectural guidance, drive engineering excellence through handson contributions, and influence technical roadmaps grounded in real implementation experience. While not a people manager, you operate as a senior mentor, modeling best practices and elevating the technical bar across teams.
  • Rapid Prototyping and Validation: Lead the endtoend development of lightweight proofofconcepts and reference implementations—personally designing, coding, integrating, and performancetesting prototypes to validate platform architecture decisions, integration strategies, throughput assumptions, and emerging use cases before committing to fullscale implementation.
  • AI/ML Workflow Design & Integration: Design, develop, and operationalize AI/MLdriven workflows that enhance platform intelligence, automation, and realtime decisioning. Work handson to build feature pipelines, integrate models into microservices, and validate performance in productionlike environments to ensure reliability, scalability, and measurable impact on mobility use cases.
  • Architect the Platform (The “Core”): Lead the design and evolution of a modular, microservices-based backend. You will define architectural patterns that decouple the core transaction engine from consumer applications, ensuring the platform supports multi-tenancy, partner integrations, and whitelabel solutions.
  • Multi-Cloud & Hybrid Strategy: Design a cloudagnostic platform built for portability. Using Kubernetes, Golang, and containerization best practices, you will architect , and develop solutions that seamlessly deploy to align with multi-cloud deployments strategy, or on-premise agency infrastructure.
  • Bridge the Hardware/Cloud Gap: Collaborate with the current engineering group to ensure real-time roadside data — sensors, devices — flows reliably into the cloud platform with low latency and high accuracy. Define scalable ingestion and event-processing patterns.
  • Drive API Strategy: Shape API architecture, standards, and governance. Ensure APIs are intuitive, well-documented, stable, and designed as platform products that empower internal and external developers without compromising core stability.
  • Operational Excellence: Influence and support best practices around uptime, resilience, and security, including PCI-DSS controls. Partner with DevOps to establish CI/CD, observability, and fail-safe deployment patterns that enable continuous, reliable delivery.

    Key Skills & Experience:

    • Modern Tech Stack Mastery: Expertise in cloud-native systems (Azure/AWS/GCP), microservices, event-driven architecture (Kafka/RabbitMQ), containerization, .NET/Java frameworks and API standards (REST/GraphQL).
    • Platform Architecture: You have designed or been a key contributor to multi-tenant platforms and understand platform versus application thinking. You know how to build reusable services, SDK-like capabilities, and shared components.
    • Payments & Fintech Expertise: Strong understanding of payment gateways, digital wallets, settlement workflows, and compliance requirements (including PCI-DSS). You understand the complexities of reliable, high-security transaction processing.
    • Hardware/Edge Familiarity: Comfortable designing systems that interface with IoT devices, roadside hardware, edge gateways, or telematics systems. Experience with high-volume real-time data ingestion is a plus.
    • Agile & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experienced working in Agile environments and partnering with product, design, QA, DevOps, and hardware engineering teams. You influence without imposing unnecessary process.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience: 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years focused on platform architecture or equivalent senior technical leadership.
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field (master’s preferred).
    • Track Record: Demonstrated success architecting high-volume, high-availability (99.99%) systems in regulated industries (Mobility, FinTech, Logistics, HealthTech).
    • Architecture: Strong experience driving "zero to one" architectural initiative and implementing scalable, extensible platform foundations.

    Preferred Experience:

    • Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science
    • Experience applying AI/ML to improve workflow, automation, or system intelligence
    • Background in mobility, transportation, logistics, or related industries
    • Experience building SDKs, developer platforms, or ecosystem enablement capabilities
