Role Overview
Walton Enterprises is seeking a senior, strategic, and experienced technology leader to serve as Director of Software Engineering. This role provides people leadership, enterprise oversight, and long-range technical direction across the organization. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with proven leadership ability to guide a team of full-stack developers in delivering secure, scalable, and high-quality solutions. This role requires extensive experience in solution design, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration, with a strong focus on consistency, accountability, and measurable outcomes.

About the Position
You will lead a high-performing software engineering team in designing, building, and integrating solutions that achieve business goals and deliver measurable value. Leveraging your deep development experience, you will provide leadership on technical strategy, application architecture, and cloud-based software solutions.
What you will do
Provide strategic, people, and technical leadership across software engineering teams to deliver enterprise solutions that drive business value. Partner with business and executive leaders to define technology strategy, lead discovery and modernization efforts, and reduce technical debt. Establish architectural standards and governance in collaboration with technical leaders, guide major technology decisions, and influence cloud and integration strategy. Build and sustain a high-performance culture through coaching, performance management, and professional development.
Responsibilities

  • Partner with business leaders to design strategies, streamline workflows, and automate processes.
  • Influence executive stakeholders with data-driven insights and clear recommendations.
  • Lead discovery phases, translating business needs into actionable technical designs.
  • Drive modernization initiatives to reduce technical debt and strengthen the technology ecosystem.

Technical Excellence
  • Partner with a Principal Software Engineer to facilitate architectural standards and governance across applications and integrations.
  • Collaborate with a Principal Software Engineer to influence cloud strategy, distributed systems, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Maintain expertise in security practices, CI/CD, data architectures, and system monitoring.
  • Guide "buy or build" decisions through thorough analysis and fact-driven evaluation.

Team & Culture
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, high-performance team environment.
  • Mentor and coach associates, providing professional development opportunities.

  • Deep knowledge of engineering principles, design patterns, and industry best practices.
  • Full-stack development expertise with JavaScript, React, Nest.js, Node.js, and HTML/CSS.
  • Strong background in relational and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Postgres, MySQL, BigQuery, MS SQL, Azure DataLake).
  • Hands-on experience with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud platforms (Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Understanding of real-time stream processing (Pub/Sub, Redis, Cloud Functions).
  • Experience with cloud-native tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Run).
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum).
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred
  • Experience with accounting, tax, multi-entity, and investment systems.
  • Knowledge of BI tools and data visualization platforms.
  • Proven ability to manage PII and consolidate data for reporting.

Compensation Range: $253,000 - $316,000
