What is a software engineer?

Software Engineers are professionals who design, develop, test, and maintain computer software and systems. They use programming languages, engineering principles, and problem-solving skills to build applications, websites, or software solutions that meet specific needs. Software Engineers may work in a variety of industries, such as technology, finance, healthcare, or entertainment, collaborating with other team members to deliver functional and reliable software. Their role often involves analyzing user requirements, writing code, debugging errors, and continually improving software performance.

What are some common challenges software engineers face when collaborating on large development teams?

Software engineers working on large teams often encounter challenges with communication, code integration, and maintaining consistent coding standards. Coordinating across multiple developers can lead to merge conflicts and misunderstandings about project requirements or priorities. Adopting tools like version control systems, regular code reviews, and clear documentation helps mitigate these issues. Building strong collaboration skills and proactively seeking clarification are key to ensuring smooth teamwork and project success.

Consultant / Senior Consultant - AI-Driven Modernization (North America) (Professional Services &...

CAST Software Inc.

Millerton, NY • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 23 days ago

Job description

CAST Software is the global leader in Software Intelligence. We help enterprises modernize faster, reduce technical debt, improve software quality, and drive efficiency across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Our deterministic software intelligence platform—combined with AI models and agents—enables enterprises to move from experimentation to production-grade AI outcomes in complex, real-world systems.

About the Role

We are hiring Consultants and Senior Consultants to drive AI-enabled modernization and customer outcomes across enterprise clients.

This is not a traditional consulting role focused on deliverables. You will own the end-to-end success of assigned customers—from onboarding to adoption to measurable impact.

You will work directly with engineering, architecture, and leadership teams to:

  • Apply CAST’s software intelligence to real systems
  • Enable AI-assisted transformation initiatives
  • Ensure outcomes are practical, usable, and production-ready

You will operate in a flat, high-ownership environment, where individuals are expected to lead from the front and drive results independently.

What You’ll Do

Drive Customer Outcomes (Not Just Delivery)

  • Own success for assigned customers from onboarding → adoption → expansion support
  • Deliver early, tangible value (insights, action plans, modernization paths)
  • Ensure customers translate insights into real changes in their systems

Enable AI-Driven Modernization

  • Support use cases such as:
    • Codebase understanding and architecture mapping
    • AI-assisted code transformation and modernization
    • Technical debt identification and remediation
  • Help customers use AI effectively by grounding it in deterministic system context (CAST)

Bridge Technology and Execution

  • Work with engineering and architecture teams to:
    • Interpret CAST insights
    • Identify risks, dependencies, and opportunities
    • Translate findings into practical next steps

Drive Adoption and Engagement

  • Proactively identify gaps in usage, understanding, or momentum
  • Step in to unblock issues and maintain forward progress
  • Support executive and stakeholder conversations with clear, outcome-oriented insights

Operate with High Ownership

  • Manage multiple customers independently
  • Prioritize work based on impact, not activity
  • Act as the single threaded owner for customer outcomes on your accounts

Who You Are

You are a strong problem-solver with a bias for action, comfortable operating at the intersection of technology and business outcomes:

  • 2–6 years of experience (Consultant) / 5–10 years (Senior Consultant) in:
    • Technology consulting, software engineering, or architecture
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Application architectures and distributed systems
    • Software development and modernization concepts
    • Cloud and/or enterprise platforms
  • Exposure to or strong interest in AI/GenAI applied to software development
  • Ability to work with large, complex codebases and extract meaningful insights
  • Strong communication skills — able to explain technical concepts clearly to different audiences
  • Self-driven and comfortable with ownership and accountability

What Makes This Role Different

  • You own outcomes, not just tasks
  • You work on real enterprise systems, not theoretical projects
  • You help make AI actually work in production environments
  • You operate with high autonomy and responsibility from day one

Growth Path

  • Opportunity to grow into:
    • Senior Consultant / Lead roles
    • Customer success leadership or solution leadership roles
  • Exposure to:
    • Enterprise architecture transformation
    • AI-driven software development practices
    • Strategic customer engagements

Compensation

Competitive package including:

  • Base salary + performance-based bonus
  • Opportunity to grow rapidly based on impact
Employment Type: FULL_TIME
