Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Technology Management, Project Management or a related field and 8 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a Software Engineering-related occupation.
  • Alternatively, will accept a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Technology Management, Project Management or a related field, and 6 years of experience in the job offered or in a Software Engineering-related occupation.
  • Position requires 6 years of experience in the following: Analyze problem situations from a broader system perspective; Grow capabilities required to lead work and develop people or People management; Design team structures that align with business goals; Translate company-wide objectives into re-aligned resources or Technical leadership for software teams; and Resolve escalated conflicts by considering multiple alternatives.

About the job

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $237,150 - $300,000 + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits determined by role, level, and location. Position reports to the Google Irvine, CA office & may allow for a hybrid schedule as per Google policy.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate team priorities that align with broader organizational goals while providing ongoing performance feedback and coaching to direct reports.
  • Develop mid-term technical visions and roadmaps to satisfy future infrastructure requirements and guide the team toward engineering excellence.
  • Design and vet scalable system architectures by clarifying ambiguous problems and assessing technical trade-offs for interoperability and semantic cohesion.
  • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of cross-team engineering projects while managing stakeholder expectations, timelines, and pivot reporting.
  • Write and review product code to ensure adherence to best practices regarding accuracy, testability, and efficiency while balancing management responsibilities. Implement standards for code health and system maintainability while leading efforts in documentation, automation, and issue resolution.
