Job description

About Handtevy

Handtevy is a leading provider of pediatric and adult emergency care solutions. Our SaaS platform is used by hospitals, EMS agencies, and fire departments to deliver evidence-based medication dosing, standardized clinical protocols, and real-time coordination tools for emergency medical services. Our software is used in ambulances and emergency departments every day, in moments where clarity, speed, and reliability are not optional.

About the Role

We're looking for a senior software engineer to own the design and delivery of our API integration platform. This is the layer that connects Handtevy to other medical systems, including ePCR, EHR, narcotic and blood tracking systems, and more. You'll be the technical lead on how third-party systems authenticate, consume, and rely on our APIs, with real ownership in architecture decisions as well as implementation. This is critical work with real impact!

What You'll Do

  • Design and build bi-directional integrations between Handtevy and third-party platforms.
  • Design RESTful APIs with clear versioning, pagination, and idempotency guarantees, documented via OpenAPI/Swagger
  • Implement and harden authentication and authorization flows, including API key management, for third-party access
  • Build resilient, observable webhook and event-driven integration patterns
  • Own reliability, testing, and documentation standards for the integration layer, including security controls
  • Partner directly with integration vendors and internal product/frontend teams (product management, customer success, clinical, and implementation) to scope and ship new integrations
  • Evolve our public-facing API into a partner platform

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of backend software engineering experience, including meaningful work on API platforms or system integrations
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Node.js and NestJS (or comparable backend frameworks) and TypeScript
  • Deep working knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWT, SSO/SAML, and API security best practices
  • Production experience with relational databases (MySQL/Aurora preferred) and NoSQL stores (MongoDB, DocumentDB, etc.)
  • Comfort with Docker, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar), and AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS/SNS/EventBridge, CloudWatch)
  • Real AI-augmented engineering practices
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience

Nice to Have

  • Healthcare interoperability experience (HL7, FHIR, NEMSIS, etc.), and/or work with EHR/ePCR platforms
  • Healthcare, EMS, or other regulated-industry background
  • Familiarity with PHP and Laravel
  • Event-driven architecture experience: Kafka, Kinesis, EventBridge, or similar
  • Observability platforms: Datadog, New Relic, or similar

Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
