Job description

We are seeking a Cardiothoracic Surgeon for ongoing inpatient coverage beginning immediately. This opportunity includes weekday surgical coverage, rounding responsibilities, and shared call coverage within an established cardiothoracic surgery program.

Assignment Details

  • Coverage needed throughout July and ongoing
  • Inpatient-only practice
  • No clinic responsibilities
  • No dedicated inpatient consult service

Schedule

  • Monday Friday
  • 6:45 AM 5:00 PM
  • Weekend coverage approximately 1 weekend per month

Call Responsibilities

  • Night call: 4:30 PM 7:00 AM
  • Weekend call: Friday 4:30 PM Monday 7:00 PM
  • Shared call rotation among cardiothoracic surgeons
  • Surgical PA serves as first call for floor patients
  • CTS APP provides overnight CVICU support

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Cardiothoracic surgical procedures
  • Preoperative rounding
  • Postoperative rounding
  • Review and co-sign APP documentation
  • Weekend patient rounding
  • New consult coverage
  • Emergent operative cases as needed

Support Staff

  • Dedicated Surgical PAs
  • CTS APP support in CVICU
  • Collaborative inpatient team model

Required Experience

Candidates should be prepared to discuss experience with:

  • Do they perform both cardiac and thoracic surgery?
  • If they perform thoracic surgery, can they perform:
    • Open thoracic procedures?
    • VATS?
    • Robotic thoracic procedures?
  • Can they manage:
    • ECMO?
    • Impella?
    • TEVAR?

Cardiac Surgery

  • Full spectrum cardiac surgical procedures

Thoracic Surgery

  • Open thoracic procedures
  • VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery)
  • Robotic thoracic surgery

Advanced Mechanical Support & Endovascular Procedures

  • ECMO management
  • Impella management
  • TEVAR

Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon comfortable with both cardiac and thoracic procedures
  • Strong inpatient and emergent surgical experience
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with APPs and multidisciplinary ICU teams
