What is the difference between Robotics Integrator vs Robotics Technician?

AspectRobotics IntegratorRobotics Technician
CredentialsAssociate's or Bachelor's in Engineering, Robotics, or related fieldAssociate's degree or technical certification in robotics or automation
Work EnvironmentDesigning, programming, and integrating robotic systems in manufacturing or industrial settingsMaintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing robotic systems on the factory floor
Employer & Industry UsageManufacturers, automation companies, system integratorsFactories, production lines, automation service providers

Robotics Integrators focus on designing and implementing robotic systems, while Robotics Technicians handle maintenance and troubleshooting. Both roles are essential in automation, but they differ in responsibilities and required skills.

What does a Robotics Integrator do?

A Robotics Integrator is responsible for designing, programming, and implementing robotic systems into manufacturing or industrial processes. They work with clients to understand their automation needs, select appropriate robotic equipment, and ensure seamless integration with existing machinery and software. Their tasks often include troubleshooting, training staff, and providing ongoing support to optimize robotic performance. Robotics Integrators play a key role in improving efficiency, safety, and productivity in automated environments.

What are the most common challenges faced by Robotics Integrators during project implementation?

Robotics Integrators often encounter challenges such as ensuring seamless compatibility between different hardware and software systems, managing project timelines to meet client expectations, and troubleshooting complex automation processes. Additionally, adapting solutions to fit unique client requirements and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams—including engineers, programmers, and operators—can add layers of complexity. Staying updated with rapidly evolving robotics technologies is also essential to deliver effective, future-proof solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Robotics Integrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Robotics Integrator, you need a strong background in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronics engineering, along with experience in robotics programming and system integration. Familiarity with PLCs, industrial robot controllers (such as FANUC, ABB, or KUKA), CAD software, and relevant certifications like OSHA or safety training is often required. Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills help you collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and adapt to evolving project needs. These skills ensure seamless implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization of robotic systems in manufacturing or industrial settings.

Job description

About Rovex
Rovex is building autonomous robots that help hospitals operate more efficiently so healthcare professionals can focus on what matters most: patient care. Our robots automate routine tasks such as transportation, logistics, and environmental monitoring, enabling healthcare systems to improve efficiency while enhancing the patient experience.
We're a fast-growing robotics startup bringing together experts in robotics, AI, and healthcare to solve real-world problems. Our team works hands-on across hardware and software, rapidly iterating from prototype to deployment in close collaboration with hospital partners.
If you're excited about building complex robotic systems, taking ownership, and seeing your work deployed in the real world, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on, versatile Electrical Engineer to help bring our next-generation robotic platforms to life. In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex electrical architecture and physical robotic movement. From designing dynamic wire harnesses that route through moving kinematic joints to developing custom test benches, you will have true ownership of our hardware from early-stage prototyping and validation all the way to production.
Key Responsibilities
  • Robotic Integration & Architecture: Integrate sensors, switches, motor drivers, and battery management systems into complex robotic platforms.
  • Schematic & Harness Design: Develop robust electrical schematics, interface documentation, and dynamic wiring harnessing solutions tailored for moving structures and kinematic joints.
  • Component Selection & BOM Management: Source and select optimal components, creating comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) for both rapid prototypes and high-volume production hardware.
  • Testing & Calibration: Design custom test fixtures, calibration systems, and automated test benches to support prototype validation and volume production environments.
  • Validation & Compliance: Perform sensor characterization, reliability testing, and environmental testing to validate hardware performance across the robot's expected lifetime. Collaborate with external facilities for regulatory compliance and safety validation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Contribute to system-level design reviews, risk assessments, and safety planning. Troubleshoot complex electrical issues across both prototype and deployed field systems.

Requirements
Desired Job Requirements, Education & Experience
  • Degree: Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Environment: Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with a strong sense of hands-on ownership over hardware systems.

Technical Skills
  • Circuit Design: Strong fundamental knowledge of analog & digital circuits (MOSFETs, op-amps, linear/switching regulators, microcontrollers, and digital protocols like SPI & I2C).
  • PCB Design: Proven experience with circuit board design (Altium preferred) encompassing specification, architecture, simulation, schematic capture, layout supervision, and manufacturing.
  • Lab & Prototyping: Excellent lab debugging skills using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and precision soldering. Experience with rapid prototyping fabrication methods, frequency analysis, and iterating quickly based on test results.
  • Software & Data: Proficiency in Python, C/C++, or equivalent tools for hardware modeling, data analysis, and testing.
  • Testing Philosophy: Solid grasp of the hardware development lifecycle, sensor physics, statistics, and lifetime reliability/environmental testing conditions.

Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work seamlessly alongside mechanical, software, and controls engineers.

Benefits
Salary: $80,000-$100,000 based on experience
