Position Summary:
The Senior Assembly I&T Technician will lead and support the planning, design, and execution of processes and procedures required to perform module and satellite level assembly, integration, and test activities. Activities will support satellite manufacturing; qualification testing and launch integration operations. The Senior AI&T Technician will handle flight hardware and operate EGSE/MGSE in the factory, at the test facilities, and at the launch sites as needed to support mission requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Primary (70%)
  • Lead and perform AIT activities across multiple programs in the various phases of the mission - design, manufacturing, qualification testing, and launch:
    • Assemble and test flight hardware in accordance with work instructions or technical manuals using hand tools, power tools, smart tools, and various measuring devices.
    • Perform hardware repairs or implement software updates, as prescribed by the engineering work instructions.
    • Set up and operate GSE and other specialized test equipment (including thermal chambers and optical measurement devices) to perform production, qualification, and acceptance test procedures.
    • Operate hoists, cranes, forklifts, and other equipment necessary to safely maneuver flight hardware during integration activities.
    • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, manuals, or engineering work instructions.
    • Document test equipment, installation or operational problems, repairs, or corrective actions performed during assembly and test.
    • Maintain system logs or manuals to document testing or operation of equipment.
    • Identify, report, and resolve integration and test failures by working with AIT and the responsible Systems Engineer.
    • Maintain parts, equipment, and tooling inventory and related documentation.

Secondary (20%)
  • Support engineering team in the development and execution of various tests pertaining to the Airbus US satellite platforms, including ARROW platform to meet customer requirements:
    • Support in development of operational procedures to perform satellite to launch vehicle integration and test activities.
    • Support engineers during the review and execution of test plans and procedures for various levels of assembly: unit, module, subsystem, platform, and satellite.
    • Testing for functional, environmental, and good health checks.
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders on common specifications and procedures for EGSE and MGSE.
    • Support I&T Engineer with incoming inspections and documentation of all materials including flight and non-flight hardware.
    • Report non-conformances to I&T Engineer and support investigations to determine root cause.

Additional Responsibilities (10%):
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Employee will be expected to support occasional shift and overtime work, as needed to support the mission.

Qualified Experience/Skills/Training:
Education/Experience:
  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 7 years of prior relevant experience or 5 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with assembly, integration, and test of flight hardware.
  • Manufacturing experience highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
  • Attention to detail and great multitasking ability.
  • Ability to read work instructions and perform electrical and mechanical assembly, integration, and test activities.
  • Understanding of document, hardware, and software configuration control and management processes.
  • Previous experience in the aerospace or avionics industry.
  • Previous experience operating test equipment and thermal chambers to support production testing.
  • Previous experience operating test equipment for electrical and R.F. testing is preferred.
  • Previous experience with handling, manufacturing, and test of flight hardware in clean room environments.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment such as forklift and overhead cranes is preferred.
  • Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving, and complex/technical environment.
  • Flexible attitude and strong initiative.
  • Ability to lift 100 lbs.
  • Fabrication of cable assemblies using soldering, crimping, and other specialized techniques is desirable.
  • Wire splicing using mechanical and solder processes to ensure secure connections is desirable.
  • Assembly of Electrical and Mechanical sub-assemblies using a variety of hand tools is desirable.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics is desirable.

Travel:
  • Primary location of this position (90%) is Merritt Island, FL
  • Extended travel events (1-3 weeks) to domestic sites to support launch and testing campaigns is mandatory.
  • Occasional international travel to collaborate with European Airbus counterparts.

Eligibility:
  • US citizenship is required.

Clearance:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Active DoD security clearance at Secret or above highly desirable.

Physical Requirements:
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents.
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
  • Standing: able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and outside areas including uneven surfaces.
