Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Engineer will play a crucial role in planning, executing, and completing engineering projects. This position will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Engineering, Quality, Operations, Procurement, Sales, and Product Management, to achieve project goals. This role will use an understanding of business case development, project management skills, high attention to detail, and will obtain a strong understanding of the design and development process of consumer products. 

CORE FUNCTIONS

·         Engineering:

o    Responsible for guiding platform-level engineering, design, and validation. 

o    Apply engineering knowledge to ensure project design and specifications meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.

·         Business Case Development:

o    Utilize a strong understanding of BOM Development and Cost Estimating to understand and determine total project cost, including labor, overhead, and material.

·         Problem Solving:

o    Address issues and challenges as they arise, offering innovative solutions to keep the project on track.

·         Design:

o    Design in CAD (SolidWorks or similar software) for the intention of production implementation (using the DFMA toolbox skills i.e. DOE, DFMEA etc.). 

o    Provide direction for innovative and new product design solutions to meet customer and company requirements.

·         Supplier Coordination:

o    Work with the company’s supply base for the design, development, and validation of components and sub-systems.

·         DFMEA and DVP&R:

o    Develop as required.  DVP&Rs are established collaboratively with RealTruck’s Corporate Test & Validation team to ensure best practices are followed.

o    Coordinate and perform product analysis and validation test activities for existing and new products for commercial viability, durability, and functionality. 

·         Project Management:

o    Responsible for timeline development, open issues tracking, milestone creation, milestone monitoring, and other project management functions.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

·         Bachelor of Science Engineering degree required.

 ·         Experience with one or more of the following commodities is preferred:  Closure sealing, extruded metals, injection molded or extruded plastics, laminations and adhesives, metal fabrication.

·         Experience in Project Management and presentations preferred.

·         Experience with project timeline development preferred.

 

Required Licenses

·         None.

 

 

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

·         Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

·         Skilled in CAD design.  

·         Skilled in SolidWorks a plus.

·         Excellent Verbal, Writing, and Presentation skills.

·         Write, speak, and comprehend English.

·         Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with a focus on root cause analysis.

 

Travel

·         Travel will be project dependent, sporadic, and occasionally with short notice.   Anticipate 8 weeks per year or about 15%.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

·         This position is subject to Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Physical Activities

·         This position is subject to the following physical activities: kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, and hearing.

 

Visual Acuity

·         The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

 

Working Conditions

·         The position is located within a technical office environment with proper HVAC where a private desk/cubicle will be provided.  Further, there are shop facilities which are both environmentally controlled, and not environmentally controlled (Machine Shop, Vehicle and Mock-up areas).  These facilities are separate from production facilities.
