Job description

Celtic Bank is seeking a talented Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) QA Engineer to help build secure, reliable, and scalable banking technology. As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) QA Engineer, you will design and maintain automated testing frameworks, validate cloud-native applications, and ensure the quality of critical banking systems and third-party integrations. You'll collaborate closely with software engineers, product teams, and business partners to deliver exceptional customer experiences while maintaining the highest standards of performance, security, and reliability.

What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks for scalable cloud-native distributed backend systems.
  • Partner with engineering teams and business stakeholders to turn user needs into clear test strategies and quality standards.
  • Build and maintain reliable automated test coverage for third-party API and platform integrations.
  • Build and maintain reliable load testing scenarios and pipelines for large and complex distributed systems.
  • Evaluate testing approaches and trade-offs, providing technical guidance aligned with business goals and risk tolerance.
  • Deliver accurate test estimates and communicate quality status and risk effectively.
  • Support production systems through monitoring, regression testing, and operational quality improvements.
  • Investigate, isolate, and document defects within large-scale distributed systems.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, and QA documentation.
  • Improve test tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and automated build/release quality gates.
  • Mentor engineers on quality practices and foster a culture of learning, feedback, and craftsmanship.
  • Stay current with emerging QA tools, testing methodologies, and engineering best practices.
  • Leverage AI tools and technologies to enhance test automation workflows and productivity.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 4+ years of professional QA/SDET engineering experience, including automated testing on cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure preferred)
  • Prior experience testing systems within financial services, banking, or fintech environments
  • Proficient in at least one programming or scripting language commonly used for test automation (e.g. JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, C#), with the ability to build and maintain frameworks from scratch
  • Strong experience with API test automation tools (e.g., Playwright, Postman/Newman, RestAssured) and CI/CD-integrated test frameworks
  • Expert-level understanding of:
  • Integration and unit testing
  • API design and contracts
  • Testing API security - including authentication and authorization, input validation, and data exposure
  • Relational and non-relational databases - including SQL for data validation
  • Test strategy for performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
  • Demonstrated ownership mindset and ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments
