Publications Intern
VisitPITTSBURGH creates, plans and implements sales, marketing, and public relations programs that attract conventions, tradeshows, media and leisure travelers into the Greater Pittsburgh area, thereby ensuring the area of certain economic benefits. VisitPITTSBURGH achieves its goals through the combined efforts of its sales, marketing and public relations staff who actively solicits convention and tradeshow business, media coverage and leisure travel for the Greater Pittsburgh area along with internal staff who support and promote these efforts.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Each year, VisitPITTSBURGH produces a number of print publications for local, regional and national distribution. The Print Publication Intern will assist with the production of those printed guides. The primary project will be the 2027 Insider's Guide, which is VisitPITTSBURGH's annual tourist guide aimed at sharing information about the region and attracting new visitors. This year's guide will highlight our new Forge On campaign, which marks an exciting milestone for this annual publication. The selected candidate will also assist with our See & Do guide, which lists local events and attractions on a seasonal basis and new guide concepts for 2027.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Experience with project management
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Ability to coordinate with partner attractions and organizations for publication needs
  • A professional who is self-motivated, takes the initiative with a can-do, problem-solving attitude
  • Familiarity with marketing email campaigns and email marketing platforms

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs duties and completes projects as assigned by the Integrated Marketing
Manager, including but not limited to:
Write compelling content that highlights Pittsburgh as a must-see travel destination
  • Edit content written by outside contractors for use in print materials
  • Work with partner attractions, organizations, and businesses to gather information
  • Contribute creative content ideas for use in new and existing publications
  • Assist with strategy and implementation of new ideas for new publications
  • Work with outside design team to manage assets and project timelines
  • Work with the Creative Content Specialist on photo asset management
  • Coordinate with Partnership Development Team on ad placements
  • Manage deadlines and materials within VisitPITTSBURGH's project management software, Monday.com
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., content, web, strategic initiatives) to support publication efforts
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and team meetings, contributing to overall marketing strategy
  • Assist with inventory management and distribution of current and future guides
  • Work on email drip campaigns for new sign-ups that correlate with key traveler segments and printed guide content
