We are looking for multiple Senior Software Engineers to join Asda's Online & Customer department.

Please be advised that this position requires attendance at Asda House in Leeds for a minimum of three days per week. We're really looking forward to having you around!

You will provide technical leadership and engineering oversight within your team to enable the delivery of high-quality, scalable, secure products. You will combine hands-on delivery with technical leadership, setting a high bar for engineering standards and practices.

    • This role sits within the George.com engineering team where we are expanding our engineering capability as part of a co-sourcing model
    • The engineering teams focus on back end integration, front end web development or app build
  • Tech Stack
    • Our George online solution is built on a cloud-first microservices architecture, with a rich integration layer ensuring the service is robust and responsive on the 24/7 basis our customers expect
    • Experience of building enterprise-grade distributed solutions on cloud platforms will be essential, as we continue to deliver applications that are secure, observable, scalable, and reliable
    • The ideal candidate will have full-stack experience, with exposure to technologies such as React Native, .NET, Azure, and Terraform.

    • Support Engineering Managers with technical input into planning, risk management and delivery decisions.
  • Governance, Best Practices & Quality
    • Champion engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, CI/CD, security and operational readiness.
    • Promote a DevSecOps mindset, encouraging ownership, autonomy and accountability for the full software lifecycle.
    • Ensure quality, reliability and security are built into solutions from design through to production.
  • Collaboration & Community
    • Actively contribute to engineering and agile communities of practice, helping to shape and embed shared standards, patterns and principles.
    • Collaborate across teams and domains to reduce duplication, encourage reuse, and improve consistency.
    • Share knowledge and learning to strengthen the wider engineering organisation.
  • Innovation & Strategy
    • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies and practices that improve engineering effectiveness and developer experience.

  • Experience building scalable solutions according to software architecture and design principles.
  • Strong knowledge of software development best practices, including code reviews, testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven experience leading software development teams in the delivery of complex projects.
  • Experience with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud-based solutions.
