How much do software developer training jobs pay per year?

As of Sep 8, 2026, the average yearly pay for software developer training in the United States is $111,845.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $90,000.00 and $130,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is software developer training?

Software developer training refers to educational programs, courses, or bootcamps designed to teach individuals the skills needed to become software developers. These trainings typically cover programming languages, software design, version control, and other technical skills. They may also include hands-on projects and collaborative work to simulate real-world development environments. Software developer training can be tailored for beginners or experienced professionals looking to learn new technologies or frameworks.

What types of projects or assignments can I expect during a software developer training program?

During a Software Developer Training program, you can expect to work on a mix of individual and collaborative projects, often involving real-world problems. These assignments typically range from building simple web or mobile applications to tackling more complex challenges like database integration, debugging, and version control with Git. You'll also likely participate in code reviews, pair programming, and agile development sprints, which help you build both technical and teamwork skills. These experiences are designed to prepare you for a professional development environment by simulating actual workplace scenarios.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in software developer training, and why are they important?

To excel in Software Developer Training, a strong foundation in programming concepts, problem-solving skills, and a basic understanding of computer science principles are essential, often supported by a relevant degree or coursework. Familiarity with key programming languages (such as Python, Java, or JavaScript), version control systems like Git, and development environments is typically required. Curiosity, adaptability, and effective communication help trainees learn quickly, collaborate with peers, and embrace new technologies. These skills and qualities are vital for building a successful career as a software developer and keeping pace with the fast-evolving tech landscape.

What is the difference between Software Developer Training vs Software Engineer?

AspectSoftware Developer TrainingSoftware Engineer
CredentialsTypically includes coding bootcamps, certifications, or coursesBachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field
Work EnvironmentTraining programs, workshops, or entry-level positionsFull-time employment in tech companies, startups, or organizations
Industry UsageUsed to prepare individuals for software development rolesProfessional role involving designing, developing, and maintaining software
Search & Comparison IntentPeople seeking training options or entry-level pathwaysIndividuals exploring career roles or job requirements

Software Developer Training focuses on preparing individuals with the skills needed to start a career in software development through courses and certifications. In contrast, a Software Engineer is a professional role requiring formal education and experience, responsible for designing and building software solutions. While training provides foundational knowledge, the software engineer role involves applying that knowledge in a professional setting.

How to get a software developer training job with no experience?

To secure a software developer training job with no experience, focus on building foundational skills through online courses, coding bootcamps, or self-study in programming languages like Python or Java. Gaining practical experience via personal projects, contributing to open-source, and obtaining relevant certifications can improve your chances; demonstrating problem-solving and learning ability is also important in entry-level roles.

How to train as a software developer?

Training as a software developer typically involves learning programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript through online courses, coding bootcamps, or computer science degrees. Gaining practical experience by building projects, participating in internships, and mastering tools like version control systems (e.g., Git) are essential for skill development and employability.

Job description

About Us:
Based in San Francisco, California, Turing is the world’s leading research accelerator for frontier AI labs and a trusted partner for global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems.

Turing supports customers in two ways: first, by accelerating frontier research with high-quality data, advanced training pipelines, plus top AI researchers who specialize in software engineering, logical reasoning, STEM, multilinguality, multimodality, and agents; and second, by applying that expertise to help enterprises transform AI from proof of concept into proprietary intelligence with systems that perform reliably, deliver measurable impact, and drive lasting results on the P&L.

Project Overview:
As a Software Engineering evaluator, you will create cutting-edge datasets for training, benchmarking, and advancing large language models, collaborating closely with researchers. This includes curating code examples, providing precise solutions, and making corrections in Python, JavaScript (including ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go; evaluating and refining AI-generated code for efficiency, scalability, and reliability; and working with cross-functional teams to enhance enterprise-level AI-driven coding solutions.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?
  • Working on AI model training initiatives by curating code examples, building solutions, and correcting code in Python, JavaScript (including ReactJS), C/C++, Java, Rust, and Go.
  • Evaluate and refine AI-generated code to ensure that it is efficient, scalable, and reliable.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance AI-driven coding solutions against industry performance benchmarks.
  • Build agents that can verify the quality of the code and identify error patterns.
  • Hypothesize on steps in the software engineering cycle (prototyping, architecture design, API design, production implementation, launch, experiments, monitoring, operational maintenance) and evaluate model capabilities on them.
  • Design verification mechanisms that can automatically verify a solution to a software engineering task.

Required Skills:
  • 3+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong expertise in building full-stack applications and deploying scalable, production-grade software using modern languages and tools.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, design, development, debugging, and code quality/review assessment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for clear, structured evaluation rationales.

Engagement Details:
  • Commitment: flexible engagement, minimum 10 hrs/week, up to 40 hrs/week (partial PST overlap required).
  • Type: Contractor (no medical/paid leave).
  • Duration: 1 month (starting next week; potential extensions based on performance and fit).
  • Location: Candidates must be based out of US, Canada or WEU countries (UK, Netherlands, Italy, Germany).

Note: As part of assessments you will go through an AI video interview.
