Job description

Software Developer - Cary, NC Hybrid
We're a leader in data and AI. Through our software and services, we inspire customers around the world to transform data into intelligence - and questions into answers.
If you're looking for a dynamic, fulfilling career with flexibility and a world-class employee experience, you'll find it here. We're recognized around the world for our inclusive, meaningful culture and innovative technologies by organizations like Fast Company, Forbes, Newsweek and more.
About the job
As a member of the SAS 9 MVA Services team, you will play a key role in maintaining and modernizing the MVA SAS9 build and workflow that support the software delivery pipeline. As a Software Developer, you will be working alongside a team of developers to triage build issues, implement enhancements to modernize the workflow and improve its robustness, and respond to internal customer questions and requests. SAS source code is the bread and butter of SAS' software, and it's crucial that its delivery is reliable, efficient and accurate.
Flexibility is key - the position does require occasional weekend and evening work.
As a Software Developer, you will:
  • Support, maintain, and enhance tools and automation for building and delivering SAS software for SAS9 and Viya.
  • Work collaboratively across teams and divisions to meet a common goal. Communicate effectively with colleagues possessing diverse expertise and knowledge.
  • Scope requirements
  • Stay informed of emerging technologies
  • Support internal customers

What we're looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development supporting large scale build systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux or similar operating systems.
  • Experience with Perl, Shell (or other scripting languages) and Jenkins continuous integration.
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience working with source control systems such as Gerrit or GitHub.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Understand software build systems, including logistics, and workflows.
  • An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Additional competencies, knowledge and skills
  • Adaptability: Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment (e.g., people, processes, structure, or culture); adjusting effectively to change by exploring the benefits, trying new approaches, and collaborating with others to make the change successful.
  • Collaborating: Working cooperatively with others to help a team or work group achieve its goals.
  • Communication: Conveying information and ideas clearly and concisely to individuals or groups in an engaging manner that helps them understand and retain the message; listening actively to others.
  • Experience with software build workflows and pipelines
  • Preferred experience with Perl and Python.
  • Preferred experience with GitHub, including code review processes and workflow automation.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours
  • Strong decision-making abilities
  • Strong ability to take initiative and actively contribute to new ideas

World-class benefits
Highlights include...
  • Comprehensive medical, prescription, dental and vision plans.
  • Medical plan options include:
    • PPO with low annual deductible and copays.
    • HDHP combined with a health savings account with a contribution from SAS (no access to on-site health care center).
  • Onsite Health Care Center (HQ) that's free to employees and family members enrolled in the PPO plan. There's a pharmacy too! Not local to HQ? The pharmacy will ship prescriptions for no additional charge!
  • An industry-leading 401k plan.
  • Tuition Assistance Program and programs and resources to support your development
  • Generous time away including vacation time, a variety of paid holidays, and our much-loved U.S. Winter Wellness Break between December 25 and January 1.
  • Volunteer Time Off, parental leave and unlimited paid sick days.
  • Generous childcare benefits for all full-time employees.

You are welcome here.
